It’s been a great return to learning in Year 1. We have been exploring our new topic Polar Lands and found out about the location of the Arctic and Antarctic Poles. The children have had great fun beginning to learn about the different animals found in these environments.
In Art, we have explored our new Artist of the moment, Kenojuak Ashevak, and have enjoyed re-creating her artwork using pointillism and paint.
In English, we have read and explored the book, Herman’s Letter. We have learnt to act in role as the main character, Herman and to write our own letters. The children should be really good at writing their letters to Santa now!
The children are continuing to practise their counting in different steps everyday and have been learning and using their number bonds to 10 when adding and taking away. Please continue to practise these with your children at home. This week, we will be practising telling the time on a clock and learning about periods of time, such as days of the week and months of the year.
Last term, the children took part in our inter-class challenge, Musical balancing linked to our gymnastics learning. Well done to 1C who won this challenge. Look out for the next challenge later this term.
