Year 6 November News

Woolton Pie Success!

Year 6 have been extremely busy making their Woolton Pies which they designed recently. Each group had their turn in the kitchen; the children learned the skill of making pastry using the ratio of 2 parts flour to 1 part butter. They had to use the rubbing technique until the mixture resembled breadcrumbs then they added a little water to bind the mixture together to form a dough. The children had to peel and cut their vegetables before part-boiling them, adding flavourings and then assembling their pie. Once cooked, the children then enjoyed these for their lunch and were so impressed with their creations – I think lots of them surprised themselves with how delicious the pies were considering fairly basic ingredients were used.

Already children have been experimenting at home by making an additional Woolton Pie for their family or even trying different ingredients for the filling – it’s been lovely to hear that children have been applying their skills at home.

Thank you to parents and carers for supplying some of the ingredients towards these.

Evacuation Day
Just a reminder that evacuation day is next week – Tuesday 5th December. It sounds like many of the children have sorted a ‘1940s’ outfit for the day but please don’t worry if not – it really doesn’t have to be too onerous; try adapting their normal school uniform with items like long socks, braces or flat caps.
