What to do when you are looking after our farm animals

Thank you for helping to care for our animals. We have 3 guinea pigs, 3 chickens and 3 rabbits who rely on us for food, water and a clean home.

Before You Start

✅ Wear nitrile gloves from the shed
✅ Wash your hands when finished
✅ Leave the animal area and shed clean and tidy

When You Finish

✅You must complete a Google Form once your visit has finished. It will be emailed to you.

Rabbits

Cleaning

Check the hutch and remove any mess if needed.
Dispose of waste in a bin bag.
Add plenty of fresh hay to the hutch, especially in cold weather.
The rabbits often use the front-right corner as a toilet area, so clear out any mess from there.

Food & Water

Fill the blue hay container (in the middle of the enclosure) with fresh hay.
Empty and refill their water with fresh water.
Give them 4 egg cups of rabbit pellets from the shed.
Treats (Optional) – Curly kale, Cabbage, Carrots

Important

❌ Do not give them straw.

Cleaning

Open the side of the hutch and slide out the tray.
Empty any waste into a bin bag and replace the tray.
Add fresh sawdust to the tray.
The guinea pigs usually wee at the back of the cage, so sweep out any wet or dirty bedding.

⚠️ Please do not move the green guinea pig hutch. It has heating cables underneath.

Food & Water

Refill the hay racks with fresh hay.
Empty and refill their water bottle with fresh water.
Give them 3 egg cups of guinea pig pellets from the shed.
Treats (Optional) Curly kale is a favourite!

Important

Cleaning

First Put on the blue shoe covers.

Coop Cleaning

Pull out the tray from the bottom right of the coop.
Remove droppings and any damp straw.
Replace with fresh straw.
Open the nesting boxes (lift the side panel) and clean out any mess.
Add fresh straw to the nesting boxes.

Run & Patio Area

Use the trowel or dustpan and brush to remove droppings from the patio slabs.
Try to keep any straw inside the coop and nesting boxes only.

Eggs

🥚 Collect any eggs you find and take them home!

Food, Water & Shells

Empty and refill the water container with fresh water.
In winter, use the heated green bowl at the back instead.

Morning Visits Only

Take the chicken feeder from the shed.
Half-fill it with chicken pellets.
Place it back inside the coop.
Half-fill the metal bowl with shell grit from the shed.

Evening Visits Only

Do not give any food.
Put the feeder back into the shed overnight to help prevent rats.
