At St Mark’s, we believe that positive relationships create positive behaviour. Our aim is not simply to manage behaviour, but to help every child flourish, develop strong character and become confident, successful learners.
We work hard to create a school environment where children feel valued, safe and supported. Through engaging lessons, enjoyable breaktimes, strong relationships, clear routines and high expectations, we help children develop the skills they need to learn well and make positive choices.
As an inclusive school, we know that inclusion includes children knowing boundaries. Boundaries help children to keep safe and learn what is right and wrong.
Summary of our system
How do we promote and celebrate hard work, great attitudes and positive choices?

We actively teach and celebrate our values, learning behaviours and positive attitudes through recognition, praise and encouragement. Children are regularly recognised for kindness, effort, perseverance, achievement and responsible choices.
We also use our Recognition Point (RP) system. Individual children can receive Recognition Points for a range of things, including: demonstrating our school values and learning behaviours; showing kindness and respect; excellent effort and attitudes to learning; producing great work; persevering when learning is challenging, and more!
1 RP is great, 2 RPs is amazing, and 3 is exceptional! RP totals reset each week, giving each child a fresh chance to get even more.
How do you encourage team work?

We encourage working together and helping each other to flourish. Whether this is through kindness, respect, or even quiet classrooms, children earn class stars for their class.
Once they get to 50 class stars, they get a class treat!
Also, the 3 classes that get the most RPs each week get a bonus of 5 class stars. And the 3 classes that have the best attendance each week get a bonus of 2 class stars.
What about when things go wrong?

Just like adults, children sometimes make mistakes! They are still learning too.
While we have clear expectations for behaviour, our focus is always on helping children learn from mistakes, restore relationships and make better choices in the future. Reflection and support are at the heart of our approach.
Helping children understand boundaries is so important. A world without boundaries is a scary place!
When children are not listening, disrupting others from learning, or being unkind or disrespectful, our teachers will:
- Give a verbal warning to help them know to stop
- Give a Concern Point (C1) as a reminder
- Give a Concern Point (C2) as a final reminder
- Give a final Concern Point (C3). This means that the child will need to go into a another classroom and reflect on their behaviour, using a Reflection Form. The reflection form, which is age and stage appropriate, will be sent home. See what an older and younger version of a reflection form looks like here.
