What a super EXPLOSIVE half term we have had in Year 4!

The children have fully immersed themselves into our Quivers, Quakes, Eruptions and Shakes project where they showed all their understanding on a recent piece of work. We were amazed at how much they could remember!

We have been complimented on how polite, organised and friendly the children have been during this terms swimming lessons. It is lovely to recieve compliments from outside of school so a huge well done!

We loved linking out art work to this unit and producing these wonderful Art pieces. We were inspired by an artist called Katsushika Hokusai who painted 36 different views of Mount Fuji.

COMPETITION TIME!

With our upcoming Govenment Times Table test, we would like to see the children continuing to play TTRock Stars for a minimum of 10 minutes per day over half term!

We have set daily competitions between the girls and boys in each class.
Monday’s winners were: 4SB Girls, 4PR boys and 4C boys!

There will be prizes for the children we see accessing TTRock Stars Daily!

Some children have brought home 56 fact cards too – these re what the children are using in school to support their TT knowledge. Please do use these to help the children with quick recall.

Year 4 Volcanic Eruptions

What a super start to the summer term we have had! The children have shown exemplary behaviour when attending QMC for their swimming lessons. We are so proud of them, although they were definitely tired by Wednesday afternoon.

On Monday, we enjoyed a game of battleships to try and protect our worlds from Earthquakes, Tsunami and Volcanic eruptions. The children had to read the co-ordinates carefully to reveal a square, remembering the key rule of ‘along the corridor and up the stairs.’ They were given three world to try and keep safe! We had great fun.

In the afternoon we designed and created our own volcanos. We had lots of fun watching them explode, although our classrooms were a little smelly after all the vinegar we used!

TTROCK STARS

Well done to 4SB for winning the TTRock Stars competition over the Easter holidays. With our upcoming times tables test, we have set the children the challenge of 10 minutes per day on TTRock Stars. This will help towards our next competition too!

Year 4 – What a busy spring term!

We have had an extremely busy spring term. All the way back in the spring term the children started learning about the Vikings where we started by making our very viking boats. The children were very surprised as they did not have horned helmets! We ended the unit making a leaflet about ‘The Truth about The Vikings.’

4. After the struggle, the Vikings were given land. What was it called?

We were then lucky to use all this knowledge at the start of Spring 2, when we had a hugely successful residential to Ufton Court!

The children were amazing in our Easter Production of ‘The Best is Yet to Come.’ We very very proud of all the children.

The actors and actresses learnt their words so well, a special mention to the children who had to learn more words just 10 minutes before our final show, no-one would of know! The dancers who created our crucifixion dance and especially our backstage, lighting and sound technicians. Every child in Year 4 played an important role!

Our Spring 2 topic was all about Simba’s UK Road Trip. Our kahoot tested our previous geography knowledge and then introduced our new unit.

During this unit we have learnt about population distribution in the UK, the mountains in the UK, rivers in Uk and the counties in the UK. We have enjoyed using digi maps to search for the answers to questions that have been posed and finding out more about Simba’s Road Trip.

We have ended our unit, with some fabulous art work. In art, we have been working on printing. The children had to choose a UK landmark and then make a tile for printing. They then completed the background print and repeated this on their paper, we had to wait a day for this to dry before we could build upon our printing. The next step was to cut out sections of our blocks and re print a different colour on top.

Year 4 – Update

What an incredibly busy start we have had to the second half of the spring term. We would like to start by saying how proud we were of the children whilst on our residential to Ufton Court. They were well behaved and learnt so much from the staff and activties. I think the quote of the residential was from Tina! See picture below!

On our return to school last Thursday, we quickly got onto our new project for this term Simba’s UK Road Trip. We started this in mixed teams of 3 and a geography knowledge kahoot. Alex was brave enough to take on all the group and came out as our Geography KING!

The children then took part in auditions and made our job very tricky to decide on characters for our Easter Production. We look forward to getting into this next week. The children can find the songs to learn in their google classroom.

Proud Year 4 Teachers!

We just wanted to add a little post to say a huge WELL DONE to the children! They represented our school so brilliant and made the last three days a huge success! The Ufton Court staff were IMPRESSED with the children’s viking and saxon knowledge. Even though today brought a little rain and lots of MUD – sorry! They enjoyed our final activity – a battle between the Saxons and Vikings.

We will upload some more photos (now we have good internet) over the next week or so, so you can see just how much fun we all had!

I am sure they are tired but please reasure them that tomorrow will be a lovely calm day, introducing our new topic and also some auditions for our upcoming Easter performance! After seeing some of the children’s acting in the Crime and Punishment activity, we know that this is going to be a very tricky job chosing our cast!

The teachers are looking forward to being refreshed tomorrow morning and seeing your wonderful children in class!
