23rd January 2026 Newsletter – Disco, Parkrun, Careers Fair update and more

A few notes from Mr Applegate

It’s been another busy (and rather wet!) week at St Mark’s. The children are working so hard, and we continue to be very proud of them. We can’t believe that half-term is only 3 weeks away.
It was great to have so many parents attending the Papaya webinar on Tuesday. If you missed it, there are 2 more in February – details below.
Disco – parents MUST book tickets by today, FRIDAY 23rd January – Click here This is due to organisational and safeguarding reasons.

Have a great weekend! Mr Applegate

Careers Fair postponed

Unfortunately we’ve had not enough take-up to run our careers fair, so have decided to postpone it to another date.

Park Run

Lovely to see some existing and some new faces at the Junior Park Run last Sunday after our launch in the Worship that week. We are now officially a “Park Run School”! Well done for those that got out in the cold and the mud and ran their 2K with super smiley faces. There were lots of St Mark’s parents cheering on too!

Every Sunday, 9am, Stratton Park. 🙂

Activewear and Underwear Donations for ages 5 to 7

Year 1 have run out of spare clothing for their children. If you have any suitable activewear or underwear that you would be able to donate, please can you send it into one of the Year 1 classes? Thank you so much.

Papaya Webinar for all parents

A really helpful webinar to help parents understand the impact of tech and smartphones on children’s mental health, and how to support them.

Foodbank Support

Music of the Week

Foodbank Friday

Many local supermarkets host a permanent donation point where people can leave the donations they purchase during their visit but we would also like to set up a station in school where children can feel that they are making a difference to help others.

We are encouraging children to occasionally bring in an item of food, which they can put in a box in our School Office.

We will update the list each week or you may prefer to download the Bank the Food App. This will update it weekly on the items we’re running low on. It’s a great app and you only need to download it and select Basingstoke Foodbank as preferred. You can also activate notifications which means you’ll get a reminder when you visit the supermarket, so you never forget to donate. It lets you know the items they most need.

Child Care Vouchers

For those of you who have access to childcare vouchers/tax free accounts, please note that these funds can only be used for childcare before or after normal school hours, e.g breakfast club and after school clubs, but not for day trips/residential trips. This is the government directive. Both SCL and HWASC accept the vouchers.
