29th April Newsletter – Sports Day, FOSM events and more!

A note from Mr Applegate

I trust you’ve had a great Easter break. It’s been great to see the children return this week – they all seem to have grown! Perhaps it was the chocolate?

There are a variety of FOSM events this term, as well as an opportunity to buy a Year Group Souvenir Tea Towel – details here!

We’re excited to announce our Sports Day – taking place on Friday 10th June on the school field. Children in Years 3-6 take part in the morning, with events starting at 9.15am. There is then a picnic lunch for children and families at 12:00pm on the field. Years R, 1 and 2 then enjoy their Sports Day from 1pm. You are very much invited to attend and watch the children taking part and also bring a picnic lunch to sit with your children! Children come to school as normal but wearing their PE kit and allocated colour (more to come); they take part in the events at the times above and have normal lessons the other half of the day.

Our focus of FOSM fundraising is to improve our outside area. It’s looking tired and sad! We need to replace our climbing equipment, paint fences, remove some hedges, get rid of weeds, replace some flower beds, and revamp our outside Year R area. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support. See the match funding notice below, too. More details to come.

Have a great weekend! Mr Applegate

We’re looking for 2 parents or carers to join our online safety team. You don’t need to be techie, but rather keen to contribute to helping our children and community stay safe online. We’ll meet once per term for an hour at 2pm. You would have input into our online safety strategy, inlcuding bringing a parent voice to what we can do for children and parents to help keep everyone safe and ‘in the know’. Email us if you are interested. Thanks!

Covid Jabs for 5-11 Year Olds

All children aged 5-11 will now be eligible for their first jabs as the COVID-19 programme rolls the vaccine out across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The vaccine is a specially developed paediatric version for children. Parents are able to access the vaccine through vaccination centres, local pharmacies and GPs.

There has been an overwhelming response from parents who would like to vaccinate their children and teams across Hampshire and Isle of Wight are working hard to provide additional capacity.

Parents are able to find their nearest vaccination site via the NHS website, by calling 119 or by calling the Hampshire and Isle of Wight COVID-19 helpline on 0300 561 0018 which can help find and book slots or direct you to your nearest walk-in.

New sites and vaccination slots are uploaded all the time so please check regularly.

Match Funding Anyone?

Please email us if you can help! We have great FOSM events coming up!

What is match funding?

If you work for an organisation that has a match funding policy, any money we raise could be matched by your employer. Companies may match the fundraising total for a whole event. Usually, the employee will need to supply them with a letter from the PTA detailing the date and nature of the event, together with the total raised.

Does your employer have a match funding scheme?

You can contact your Human Resources Department to find out if your employer has a match funding scheme, or if they are willing to match funds at any of our events.

If your employer has a match funding policy, please do let us know, especially if you are already volunteering or thinking of volunteering at any PTA event.

Thank you in advance for looking into match funding. Every little really does help (and yes, Tesco do match fund!).

FOSM - Support Our School!

About FOSM

blankThe ‘Friends of St Mark’s’ (FOSM) was formed early in the life of the school. All parents are automatically members and our committee organises social events for children and adults and fund-raising events such as Key Stage discos, Easter Egg Hunts and Summer Fun days.

Over the last few years the ‘Friends’ have donated money that has contributed towards extra resources to benefit the children at St. Mark’s which has included playground equipment, books for the school library, and general school funds. We are now a registered charity, too. Charity number: 1188879
