Year 1 – Polar Explorers Day
Polar Explorers Day was a “hook” into our new project, “Poles Apart”, and was a chance for the children to get a taste of what’s to come in our learning over the coming weeks.
There were English and geography opportunities, but most of the activities had an art focus.
The children enjoyed looking at a map to find the coldest parts of the world; and our Arctic and Antarctic animal scavenger hunt on the school grounds was a great success – some of the children even made paper binoculars to ensure they didn’t miss anything. We made paper plate penguins and chalk and charcoal polar bears; and after learning a little about the Aurora Borealis, we created our own Northern Lights artwork.
It was a busy and enjoyable day! Thank you for supporting us by providing the children with their explorer clothes!
