Y2 2024-2025

Happy New Year! The children in Year 2 have had a great first week back to school. They have started their new project, ‘Healthy Happy Me!’ where they have been starting to learn about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. Over the term, the children will be finding out more about these women and the impact they have had on our history. We explored their images and created our own line drawing sketches of them.

The children have also enjoyed learning about ‘Charlie and the chocolate factory’. We have been inventing our own sweets and as part of our English, we have been writing about the amazing inventing room in the story. In maths, we have been learning about money, learning to make totals in different ways using coins and notes. We have also started learning our 10 times tables, so maybe your child may like to have a go on TTRS and see how many they know.

Year 2 Healthy Me Happy Me! Curriculum Information Leaflet

The children had a great end to their first term in Year 2. They have been working really hard designing and creating their own puppets based on familiar characters from traditional tales. Can you recognise any characters?

Year 2 also enjoyed a local walk around the woods, looking for human and physical features in our surroundings. The children loved exploring and then used their experience to write their own recounts of the walk. It’s been a busy and fun half-term and we look forward to our next project with the children after the half-term break.

What a great start to Year 2! The children have settled well into their new classes and routines, and we are really proud of them all. They are enjoying our new project, ‘Beauty on our doorstep’, where we have been learning about the human and physical features in our local area and even enjoyed a walk around our school looking for some of them. The children have learnt about different materials and their properties, where they have been exploring clay in order to create their own owls by manipulating the clay in different ways.

We have also started out DT unit about sewing. The children have been learning about running stitches and designing their own puppets based on a traditional tale character – can you spot any familiar characters in their designs?
