Year 5 – Thursday 2nd April

Good Morning Year 5!

We hope you didn’t pull too many April Fool jokes on your family yesterday.

Well done for finishing your Millions stories yesterday. Thank you so much to those children who have sent them over for us to read. We have really enjoyed them and are really impressed with what we have read so far. We can’t wait to read more so please keep sending them in to the year 5 email.

We have something exciting to tell you about. Us Year 5 teachers have been really missing you all recently so we thought that we would like to get as many of us together as possible. Therefore, we are planning class video chats soon with as many members of each class as we can. This will be using an app called Zoom. 5GP are going to have a Zoom video call tomorrow at 11am and 5T will have a video call tomorrow at 3pm. 5F will be very soon, but we don’t have a set time yet. We will email your parents the details of how to log in for the chat. If we have time we will try and do a true or false European Countries quiz. For this you will need a piece of paper with true written on one side and false written on the other. We are really looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible.

We really hope you can join us for these catch ups, and we will make sure to plan a 5F catch up soon. Keep up the hard work.

Helpful Reminders

Don’t forget you can email us on year5@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!

Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.

Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.

Daily Activities

Today your jobs are going to be Maths, English and Topic.

  • TTRockstars – Miss T will be online again at 3pm – hoping that she doesn’t continue to get beaten by different children. But her times table knowledge has definitely improved.
  • Numbots – Remember to use your TT Rockstars login and to work through the easier levels to get to the more challenging levels.
  • Spelling Shed – Practise your daily spellings here, email in to ask for your login if you need it.
  • Reading –  Read for at least 20 mins and then write in your reading log.
  • Spellings – Learn these everyday using look, say, cover, write and check.

Maths

Today’s maths is going to continue to work the same as yesterday’s maths. Click here to go to the website with the video. You will need to click on Week 1 and then scroll down to lesson 3 – Decimals as Fractions (2).

Below is the sheet and the challenges for today. As with the last few days, the answers are on the website but we can also email them to you as well.

English

Today you are going to be writing a book review for the story Millions. Below is a format that you may want to use. However, you can use whatever format you would like, handwritten or printed, but it has to include:

  • Describe the main characters
  • What happened in the story
  • Your favourite part
  • What could be better about the story
  • Is there any similarities to any other books?
  • Who is this book suitable for? (age or gender)
  • Star rating out of 5

Please send us a copy of your book review when you have finished. We would love to know what you thought.

Topic

Today you are going to be thinking about capital cities and the rivers near them. You will need an atlas or map for the task, so if you have maps or atlases at home that would be helpful, but if not you can use the internet to help you.
