I hope you have had a good start to the holidays, I am missing you all. It is strange not seeing you all. We are planning some Zoom meetings after Easter if you are able to join that would be great. We will send the details of how and when after Easter.
That is just one way I have been keeping in touch with my family and friends, I expect you are using lots of ways too. I hope you are finding lots of fun things to keep you busy. I am very lucky and have a nice garden so I am spending a lot of time out there and hope to grow some vegetables to eat later in the year. Hopefully they will be as successful as our oak trees which have been planted outside. I am also trying to get fitter and have been either out on my bike or walking in the countryside nearby, so when we get back I will be able to run faster and further than I did before. I wonder if 4SH will all be able to beat me?
I hope you are making preparations for Easter, making cards, decorating trees and maybe making or eating some sweet treats. Keep healthy!
From Mrs Happy
Working hard in my garden. I will show you the results later in the year.
I hope you are all well and staying safe in this beautiful sunshine. Last week, I was in school helping the Year R’s which was something very different and exciting for me! It did feel very strange being in school without all of you there smiling back at me, but it just makes me look forward to seeing you all again even more. I have loved seeing your brilliant pieces of work that you have sent in through email and also some of the extra things you have been doing as well. I can’t wait to start seeing your Easter crafts and Lego competition entries through the week – do send them in to year3@stmarksce.org.
I hope you have been finding ways to keep busy and enjoy this lovely, extra time we get to spend with our families. If you are a little bit stuck with things to do for fun, I have created a quiz for you to do. You can choose to be a team with your family and all work together or battle each other to see who can win Miss Barnett’s ultimate Disney Challenge! Why don’t you try and see how many of our learning behaviours you can use along the way?
Enjoy this time together with your families and I can’t wait to see you all soon.
Have a fantastic week and keep being superstars! Miss Barnett

We are still checking our emails regularly and have loved seeing what you are doing. Feel free to email us if you have a question or just want to say hello at: year1@stmarksce.org.uk
You can access our general resources to support your child at home here: Y1 General Resources
Please do not feel like you have to complete all of the activities provided in one day. We have given a variety so that there are options for you to choose what works best for you at home.
Read Write Inc are kindly doing live daily phonics sessions, although they may have stopped this over the Easter holidays. They are at certain times depending on which sounds you would like to practise. We suggest either Set 2 or Set 3 sounds. Find the link here: RWI Phonics
If you are running out of reading material, you can try Oxford Owl.You need to make a free parent account but it gives to access to some Oxford Reading Tree e-books that we use at school. Make sure you are reading a book that is at your child’s band. If they are finding this band too easy, you could try a songbird book from the band above.
Alternatively, you can find free Big Cat ebooks by following the steps linked here: Big Cat ebooks.
Optional Ongoing Activities
As well as the learning tasks we upload each day, there are a few ‘extras’ that you could have a go at, if you get time.
Read a book. This can be their school reading book, an e-book or a book from home.
Practise counting from 0-100 (forwards and backwards) or in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s
One more and one less than a number (pick from 0-50)
Numbots (login is in the back of the reading log)
Sing a number bonds song or use Hit the Button (number bonds to 10 or 20): Hit the Button link
Spelling: there are no new words over the Easter break, however if you are looking for spellings to practise you can use key words. Find our previous post with all 300 key words here: Key Words
We hope you are all well and still enjoying the lovely weather. I was a bit unsure what would happen yesterday morning when I saw it had been raining but the sun soon had his hat on again!
We hope you enjoyed getting started on the Easter activities we suggested for you yesterday, we would love to see some of your wonderful creations on Tapestry.
The holidays are a wonderful time to have a bit of a rest, but remember to keep being Heart Smart and helping your grown ups at home whenever you can.
Have a lovely day!

Holiday Activities –
Set up a garden obstacle course and record yourself completing it.
Create a photo storybook. For example – The adventures of your favourite Teddy – take photos of your cuddly toy and then get an adult to video you telling your story or perform it to an audience.
Draw a picture and send it to someone to make them smile.
Make some animals out of playdough.
Video call a member of your famliy and read them a story.
Try a Numberblocks make and play activity. Click to open.
A “Keyword” Easter hunt in the garden. Click on the sheet below to download and print (alternatively make your own or make your own keyword hunt: write out pairs of keywords – keep one set, hide one set and when you find a word match it to the word in your set.)
A “Number” Easter hunt in the garden – Download and print the sheet below, cut each egg in half and hide all the parts. Once the children have found the egg parts they have to combine the correct ones to make a total of 10 e.g. 8 and 2, 7 and 3 etc
Don’t forget you can email us on yearr@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password or need some help.
You can continue to use Tapestry to share your child’s work. Please only upload one post a day. You can either choose one activity or put all the activities you complete on one post.
We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!
Independence
The children in Year R are very rarely asked to work independently, particularly when writing. It is expected that they will need adult support to get started on all of the tasks we set for them here, and continue to need it throughout their activity.
However, we want to continue to build their independence, so encourage them to use resources which can help them be independent like sound cards, letter formation cards for handwriting etc.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities with you. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
There is absolutely no expectation that you get all, if any of these activities completed each day.
