SATs Information & Booster Interventions
Thank you to everyone who came to our SATs information evening on Wednesday. It was fantastic to see so many of you there to understand how we prepare the children for their end of KS2 tests and how you can do the same at home. If you weren’t able to make it, please see a copy of the presentation below.
On Monday, most children (if they are taking the SATs in May) will be coming home with their results from our October SATs practice. (Apologies – the letter printed says ‘March’).
Some children will also be coming home with an invitation to our booster sessions which are starting next week (week commencing 2nd December). They may be invited due to not quite meeting expectations yet and therefore we want to help fill as many gaps in their learning as possible. For others, it’s because we feel they could be capable of reaching ‘greater depth’ and so we would like to ‘push’ them in their learning a little more.
We will be reviewing these booster groups, along with further SATs practice regularly and based on these, we will invite more children when we feel necessary.
Please come and chat to us if you have any questions.
Year R Notices
Christmas Play
– Due to rehearsals for the Christmas play we will not have PE this week so you do not need to send in PE kits tomorrow, Monday 25th November.
– Costumes for the Christmas play are due in tomorrow, Monday 25th November. Please ensure items are named and in a named bag.
– We have four remaining rehearsal this week before our dress rehearsal on Monday 2nd December so please keep practising your child’s lines with them at home and singing ‘Away in a Manger’ as much as possible!
Spare clothes
Despite starting the school year with an ample supply of socks, tights and pants to lend out, we now have no socks and very few pairs of tights or pants left. While we are happy to lend your child our clothing if they have a toiletting accident, get wet feet at playtime, or do not have socks in their PE bag, we do ask that you return them as soon as possible once laundered.
Please can you all check at home to ensure you don’t have any school socks, tights or pants.
In the meantime we ask that if your child is prone to accidents you provide some spare clothing in their book bag as of tomorrow.
Thank you.
Away In A Manger
This morning we learned ‘Away in a manger’ to sing in our Christmas Play. While some of the children know verse one from pre-school or nursery, the children were mostly very unfamiliar with the tune and words.
It would be very helpful if you could practise singing it at home as much as possible! Here is a reminder of the words and there is an audio clip to sing along to at the bottom of this page.
Thank you.
Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head;
The stars in the bright sky looked down where He lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.
The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus no crying He makes:
I love thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
And stay by my side until morning is nigh.
Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask thee to stay
Close by me forever and love me, I pray;
Bless all the dear children in thy tender care,
And fit us for heaven to live with thee there.
Year 1 continue to explore!
Year 1 are continuing to enjoy their new project. We have learnt about Tom, the great explorer and written letters from him about his adventures in the North Pole. The children have also enjoyed writing postcards imagining that they have visited the poles.
We had great fun learning about Inuit people and how they have lived in the North Pole. We created our own collages of what the people might wear.
In English at the moment we are beginning to learn about information texts and will be creating our own information pages about polar animals. We will continue to focus on writing sentences which make sense and have correct punctuation. In maths, we are learning about addition and subtraction and learning to solve number sentences related to these, e.g. 10-6=4; 4+5=9. We are also continuing to practise our pairs of numbers to make all numbers up to 10. This website, https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games, is great for practising maths skills.
