Year R update

On Monday, the children were given their new set of speed sounds to focus on at home. Most of the children are now learning these in their class phonic groups. Please show the child the picture side and then turn over for them to make the diagraph sound. We will continue to learn about these in phonics sessions as well as in individual reading books.

Thank you to everyone who has returned the farm permission slip and money. If you haven’t, please can you do this by the end of the week.

Thank you to everyone who has returned the Sainsbury’s permission slip and money. If you have offered to help on this trip we will be in touch next week to confirm times and arrangements.

We are hoping our chicks hatch this week or early next week. We will keep you posted.

There is no PE next week on the 20th March due to our farm visit. Please send your child in school uniform for the day and ensure they have a coat and pair of wellington boots.

A fabulous half term!

We have had a really busy half term learning about People Who Help Us in school and the community. We loved having the police car and motorbike in and were really lucky to actually sit in these vehicles and press the sirens and lights. We learnt a lot from PC Blum and PC Sawyer about how they help people. Next came the fire engine where we met Dan Trump and his crew. We were able to sit in the fire engine and spend time looking at all the equipment and how they use this in a variety of different rescue situations. We asked lots of questions to find out more information. On Thursday this week we are having a visit from a paramedic and ambulance to learn more about this service. We are really lucky to have all these visits from these emergency services, and the children have been very been very motivated about this topic. They have created some fabulous paintings, brilliant creative writing and enjoyed lots of role play experiences.

Our outside area plans are developing all the time. Thank you for all the donations of toys, the children are already enjoying using these.

Lots of exciting activities are planned for after half term including learning about Chinese New Year, New life with a visit from Miller’s Ark Farm, and our trip to Sainsbury’s with our buddies. If you think you may like to help on this trip please ask at the office now for a DBS form so we can process this before we are going.

Please ensure your child has a full PE kit all week in school. Your child need shorts for indoor PE and Joggers and jumpers for outside. On occasion we have to change inside for outside due to other year group commitments and the weather, therefore it is essential your child has a fully labelled complete set of PE kit. We do not have enough spares to lend everyone. Thank you!

Christmas Costume Letters

Dear Parents

All children came home yesterday with a letter explaining what part they are in the Christmas play and what costume they need. Please don’t buy ready made costumes as we will accessorise the children’s clothes so they all look similar.

Please ensure these are in school by Wednesday 29th November in a named bag. Any questions please ask your child’s class teacher.

Wow! Year R are fantastic!

We are coming to the end of the first half term and the children have settled well into school. They have learnt their routines and know how each day works. The children have made fantastic progress with their phonics and after half term we will move into smaller groups working across the year to suit different abilities.

Over half term we are asking that you continue to practise their sounds, visit the library and share stories. Please help your children to count and recognise their numbers! We have sent home a letter asking the children to go on an Autumn walk and collect different objects. Can they bring these in on the first Monday back to school as we will be using them for activities.

We say goodbye to Miss Dillon today. She has been working in Parrots. We wish her luck as she starts a new adventure. After half term we welcome Mrs Elliott to Parrots as our LSA – I’m sure you will make her feel very welcome.

Well done everyone for a fabulous half term. We look forward to seeing you refreshed and ready for lots more fun learning!

Thank you for your continued support.

In Year R we have some duck eggs!  We are all really excited about the ducks hatching from their little eggs. For the last few years we have hatched chickens but this year we had the opportunity to have ducks instead. Some of us want the ducks to be bright yellow but some want them to be brown ducks! The children have been staring at the incubator that holds the duck eggs, for a really long time!  Everybody is hoping that all of the eggs will hatch this year.

In Year R we are learning about people who help us in and outside school. It is really interesting to learn. Some of the people, who help us, are:
Ambulance People
This term we are really excited because firemen and policemen came, with their vehicles, and visited us for the day. They showed us all the equipment, that they use, and let us hold them.  We are extremely excited to know what our new topic is for next term.

In Year R we have been learning about the Jolly Christmas Postman. We have also been learning about Humpty Dumpty and how we could protect him from breaking his egg shell. We chose a material and wrapped it round Humpty Dumpty. We used wrapping paper, paper, bubble wrap and cotton wool. Then we dropped him on the floor. For Anti-Bullying-Week we sang a song about our hands, feet and words and how we could keep them to ourselves.

In art we have been doing stamping with paint and … brussel sprouts!  Then we put paint on our pinky finger and dabbed it onto the stamp. After that we blobbed a little bit of glue onto the holly wreath. Next we poured just a little bit of green glitter onto it to make pretend mistletoe!! In Maths we have been counting numbers and it is really hard!

On Chinese New Year we tried Chinese food like:
Vegetables covered with sauce
We liked the noodles best!
