Year R – Monday 23rd March

Good Morning Year R

We hope you had a good weekend.  Wasn’t it nice to see the sun shining so brightly? Spring has definitely sprung and today we’re going to celebrate that. There’s a springtime activity and also some fun springtime songs.

This week in school it is our RE week focusing on ‘New Life’. During this week we would have been learning about the Easter Story, talking about its importance to Christians, and linking it to our previous learning about new life which comes from eggs (dinosaurs, chicks, ducks, frogs.) If you would like to read the Easter story with your children and talk to them about how it teaches Christians about new life, then please do so.

Helpful Reminders

Don’t forget you can email us on yearr@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you.

Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.

Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.

or

2. Describing the main characters – Supertato and Evil Pea.

If you can and would like to there are links below to resources that can be printed for the children to write on.  This isn’t necessary though if you would like to save ink or don’t have access to a printer.

Maths

The children are really familiar with 2D shapes now (square, circle, rectangle, triangle, hexagon and pentagon) so today we are going to focus on 3D shapes.
Use the link below to look through the PowerPoint first with your child, telling them the name of each 3D shape and then looking at the next page, showing a real object which is this shape.
They might be able to name 2D shapes they can see, so we’ve included the information about the properties of each shape on the slides too so you can help them see that the 2D shapes they can see are the faces. There is no expectation that the children know these properties, but they are just there to help if needed.
Now it’s time for them to go on a shape hunt around the house! There are a few question prompts on the last slide to ask as they find each shape.

Understanding The World

Hopefully when we look outside today the sun will be shining again! Spring has begun! Have a look outside in your garden.  What signs of Spring can you see? What can you hear? Remember to look up high and down low. Maybe you could take some photos of the signs of Spring you have spotted? Perhaps you could draw or paint a picture? There’s a list of things to look out for below but you could write your own list of what you saw. Happy hunting!
