Helpful Reminders

We are still checking our emails regularly and have loved seeing what you are doing. Feel free to email us if you have a question or just want to say hello at: year1@stmarksce.org.uk

You can access our general resources to support your child at home here: Y1 General Resources

Please do not feel like you have to complete all of the activities provided in one day. We have given a variety so that there are options for you to choose what works best for you at home.

Read Write Inc are kindly doing live daily phonics sessions. They are at certain times depending on which sounds you would like to practise. We suggest either Set 2 or Set 3 sounds. Find the link here: RWI Phonics

You can still access Joe Wicks’ daily PE videos at 9 am each morning: Joe Wicks Daily PE

English – Phonics

As our English activity today, we are focusing on phonics. We will be looking at Set 2 sounds today. You could watch the Read Write Inc video on Set 2 sounds live at 10:00 here: RWI Youtube as this would a great start to this activity. After 10:00, the clip is available for 24 hours on the RWI youtube channel. Alternatively, you could watch Mrs Baird’s Set 2 speed sound video linked attached to this post.

After practising some speed sounds, have a go at some of these activities. You can do as many or as little of them as you like but we would recommend trying at least two of them:

  • Monster Words – Sound out and blend the words. Draw a monster next to the words that are not real words (monster words!) Click here: Monster Words Set 2

  • Snakes and Ladders – Roll a dice and move that amount of spaces. Sound out and blend the word before moving to the next person’s turn. If your square has a ladders, you can climb it but if it has a snake, you have to slide down. The winner is the first person to reach the finish square. Click here: Set 2 Snakes and Ladders

  • Phonics Play: Dragons Den! Find Set 2 sounds (in either the phase 3 or phase 5 sections) or enter your own words. This game is similar to Obb and Bob as it involves sounding out and blending the words and deciding if they are real or monster. Click here: Dragons Den

  • Write a sentence using one of the words below. You could make this more exciting by using fun pens or pencils! Remember to keep your handwriting small and neat.

  • Make words with Set 2 sounds out of playdough or magnetic letters. You could choose a word from the table above, or think of your own.

  • Write each sound on different pieces of paper and see if you can make a word that has a Set 2 sound in it. You could choose a word from the table above, or think of your own. For example:

Maths

Today we are thinking about comparing numbers. Have a chat with someone at home about what greater and less than mean. We have covered this in school a couple of times but see if you can remind yourself. Can you tell someone at home what these symbols mean?

Use the slides here to talk about comparing numbers to 50 using greater than, less than or equal to language. There are some practical activities on the slides that you could have a go at. Slides: Maths 27.3.20

You could then work through the questions on this sheet: Maths – Friday 27th March

Topic

Heartsmart: Today we are going to be thinking about kindness. The story of The Selfish Crocodile is linked on the slides, have a listen and see if you can spot where the characters show kindness. Do they always show kindness? There is also a kindness game for you to have a go at playing at home. The song that we have chosen for this week always helps us to feel happy, we hope you enjoy it!

You can find the whole worship (videos included) on this powerpoint: Heartsmart Worship PPT 27.3.20

Alternatively, you can view this PDF file and use the links given below: Heartsmart Worship PDF 27.3.20
