Good Morning Year 2 

We hope you all slept well and have had a good breakfast, ready for another day of learning. Thank you to those of you who have been able to email us. Remember to keep up the good work. We saw some brilliant work yesterday, some super fact files, art and topic work. Thank you. Well done to Jade, Arthur, Owen, Ella, Freya, Laila, Noah, Elodie and Ethan for their work below.

Remember to take frequent breaks and to keep washing your hands during the day. 

Try to take 10 minutes out today and think about what you are grateful for. Maybe someone in your family is helping you with your home learning or a friend has contacted you and made you smile.

Helpful Reminders

Don’t forget you can email us on year2@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!

Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.

Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child. 

Ongoing Daily Activities

Here are the daily activities for you to complete each day. Continue with the handwriting booklet, working through it very gradually, not in one go. You can either print the booklet, or do this onto paper of your own at home. We look forward to seeing how amazing your handwriting will be when we see your work. The Common Exception Words should also be learnt gradually, by selecting 2 or 3 words a week that you should aim to learn along side your weekly spellings.

20 minutes of reading either a school book or a home book. You should also have received login details for the Scholastic Learning ZoneWe have allocated books that your children may like to read.

Complete your 2,5 and 1o times tables using TTRockstars, or a different method.

In English today, we will be creating our own book reviews. This can be a book review of Roald Dahl’s ‘The Enormous Crocodile’ or it could be another book that you are enjoying reading at home. It is completely up to you. When you write, think about your audience. You are writing to try and persuade other people to read the book you love. What is it about the book that makes it good? The story? The plot? The characters? The illustrations? Think how you will persuade people. You may want to use some of the persuasive techniques that you used when you were writing to the Enormous Crocodile last week. 

We would also like you to try and use subordinating conjunctions ‘because, if, when’ in your writing today, to extend your sentences and give reasons. We can’t wait to see them. Maybe you could also send them to a friend or family member (with your parent’s permission and support) to try and persuade them to read your favourite book!

Maths

Today in maths, we will continue our fraction work using White Rose Maths: Lesson 4- Step 9- Non-unit fractions.  Non-unit fractions are where we have more than one part i.e. two thirds or three quarters. It will be important for children to understand that the denominator (the total number of parts) goes at the bottom when we write our fraction; and that the Numerator (the number of parts shaded) goes at the top. It is also important to continue stressing that fractions need to be equal parts. Have fun with this fraction work. It may also be useful to reinforce the understanding of fractions by using practical things that you may have around the house. For example building a lego tower with 4 bricks, where 3 are red and 1 is yellow to show 3/4 are red. Have lots of fun. We hope you are finding the videos helpful.

History

Queen Elizabeth II has a big family. Queen Victoria was her Great-Great- Grandmother. Look at her family tree and then try to make one of your own family. You can be as creative as you want with this! You may wish to add photos (if you have them at home). You could even ask family members to email pictures over to you and make it a whole family project. You may even discover facts about your family that you didn’t know before!
