Good Morning Year 4!
Good morning everyone, as we work our way through these strange times, I have noticed lots of changes to our world, I wonder if you have too? One of the things I have noticed in particular, is how much braver our nature is. I hung a bird feeder on a hook on my balcony hoping for garden birds, but this morning when I looked out of my window, there were two crows on my table and chair and a pigeon, all three of these birds have been visiting daily since the weekend!
Your work has been simply stunning this week and we will be showcasing the children’s word in our gallery tomorrow so keep your eyes peeled and ensure that you send us any artwork once it’s been finished.
We really appreciate your emails and value your comments about how you are managing to complete the work that we provide. As we have said before, there is no pressure for you to complete every piece of work every day, and if you can think of a more creative way to complete the work, we would love to hear about it. It was fabulous to hear about one child’s Zoom reading sessions with her grandad, and what a fabulous way to keep in touch! We are well aware of the constraints of this new way of working and would like to reassure you that while we provide printable resources, we also appreciate how much paper and printer ink this may consume so please do not feel that you have to print anything, let alone everything we provide. We just want you to do the best you can in this situation.
If you fancy trying to help break a Guinness World Record then why don’t you join in with England’s Biggest Assembly? Today at 10am, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will deliver a message of hope to school pupils across the country in the first assembly at Oak National Academy. The Archbishop’s address will be streamed through the Times Educational Supplement website and then will remain available on the Oak National Academy website. Do try and watch it live, and encourage your networks, families and children to watch it live, as you and they may potentially be part of a Guinness World Record!

Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
Maths – Order decimals
The Maths focus for today is all about ordering decimal numbers. If you think back to yesterday’s lesson where we were comparing decimal numbers, we used a place value grid to look at these as a picture. You will be using place value grids today so that you can see what the number looks like and this will help you to put each number in order. Key vocabulary to think about today are the words ascending which means going from smaller to larger, and descending, meaning going from larger to smaller. In today’s work you will be ordering decimal numbers, but be careful to check whether you are asked to put the numbers in ascending or descending order. Make sure that you watch the White Rose video: Summer 1, Week 1, Lesson 4 and pause it when it asks you to have a go at the questions. Remember, you can watch the video as many times as you need to.
English and Science – Food Chains
Today we are going to start by thinking scientifically about our big cats. There is a PowerPoint to look at with some information and a link to a film clip explaining a little bit about the circle of life. The first task, if it is dry, is a field or garden survey, Have a look in your garden for signs of living things. You might wish to take some photographs or draw pictures, or you may just want to write them down. We have provided a table on the slides as an example if you would like to record that way. Think carefully about all the categories of things that you have seen. If it is wet and windy, have a look out of the window.
Next, watch the clip from the Lion King. Listen carefully to what Mufasa says to Simba, and then look at the slides with information about food chains. Your task today is to create your own food chain with labels. I have done an example for the snow leopard. You don’t have to draw it, be creative, you might want to make a model out of Lego or play dough, or you might have some pictures you can cut out of a magazine (make sure that you ask first though). We are really looking forward to see how creative you can be, while recognising the different parts of the food chain.

We thought that you might enjoy some Big Cat fun so here is a quiz and puzzle page from a magazine. Try a ‘Spot the Difference’, solve the ‘Cub Footie’ match results or even have a go at finding all the big cat words in the Wordsearch. The solutions are also below.
