Year 3 – Project Update

Over the last couple of weeks we have been lucky enough to get out and about to Beggarwood Park as part of our Geography field work. Whilst we were out we took the school iPads to photograph the physical and human features of the park. We had super conversations about the changes that have taken place over the last few years and the changes still happening to this area. Here are some of the fabulous pictures taken by the children:

Back in the classroom, we plotted using a simple key the human and physical features onto our maps. We will now be working on looking at Beggarwood Park over the years, through maps and how much they have changed. This is going to lead us into an investigation as to why we need physical features around us and what threats are upon these areas all the time.

A couple of reminders:

We continue to set weekly spellings that is part of the children’s homework. These are set as they have been in your Google Classroom class. If you have forgotten your password, please email us at year3@stmarksce.org.uk and we will reset this for you. We do expect these to be completed and handed in each week.

We have also been chatting at how to make reading records more accessible for all and easier to record at home. Reading is a really important part of our school day and we want to promote how much benefit reading daily has. In school we have a set 15 minutes after lunch where we silent read, this is to build up our stamina for reading. We then have a time where the class teachers read to the children, this is helping the children to be transported into another world and also to unpick language used by the author.

In google classroom, under classwork we are now providing a weekly reading check list for you to mark when you read at home. We have shown your children how to complete this when they read. We are also giving you some recommendations.

We look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming parent’s evenings. There is still time to book these if you haven’t had a chance to yet.
