I hope everyone is managing to keep safe and well.
Someone kindly shared this resource with me and I thought I would put it on the Ark website as it could help some children and families where they speak multiple languages. It is a picture book and is aimed at children 7 and under but it could still be shown to older children.
Well Year 6, the Easter Holidays are nearly over. We know they have been a strange two weeks as you haven’t been able to get out and do what you normally would do during the holidays. However, we hope you have enjoyed the activities that we have posted and that you and your family have still managed to have a relaxing break together.
Whatever you get up to today, whether it’s the activities on here or something else, take some time to really reflect and appreciate on how wonderful this time has been to spend with our families.
Next week, we will begin our new topic…it’s a brilliant one! We will hook you into it on Monday.
We’re also so excited to see you all on our Zoom video chat next Wednesday! Parents have been sent all the details of how to log in.
Have a super day!
Mrs Silvester, Miss Pettitt and Mrs Chapman
Daily Fun Activities
Start your day with some exercise to get your endorphins working – these little chemicals in your body make you feel super happy! Maybe you’ll try Joe Wicks’ live stream on Youtube or perhaps see how many times you can walk up and down the stairs… although this one sounds easy, make sure you still stretch before and after – it’s hard work!
Some colouring-in fun
If you’re feeling a little bit slow today and fancy a bit of calm mindfulness colouring to ease you into the day, try this one out!
Who fancies a virtual tour around Longleat?! This is one of Mrs Silv’s favourite places so she will definitely be watching this today whilst counting down the days until she can visit it again properly.
Brighten up your rooms with some paper-craft flowers. Why not make a whole bunch for someone you love, maybe as a thank you for helping you after the last few weeks?
Although we are about to head into the Summer term at school, we are very much in the midst of Spring and there are beautiful signs within nature all around us. Create an acrostic poem or complete the other puzzles related to Spring.
Grace has sent a lovely idea for all the girls to take part in her Easter Nail Decorating Competition! Let’s see all your photos afterwards. Here are her beautiful nails…
Riddles
Answers to yesterday’s riddles…
Your age!
A piano!
Your breath!
Timmy!
The letter ‘m’
Have a go at solving these riddles! You can email us your answers to year6@stmarksce.org.uk
If I have it, I don’t share it. If I share it, I don’t have it. What is it?
What can you catch but not throw?
How many months have 28 days?
It follows you and copies your every move. But you can’t touch it or catch it. What is it?
I can’t believe it’s the last day of the Easter holidays! Where have the last two weeks gone? I hope you have all managed to relax and have some fun in the sun.
All of the year 5 teachers have been incredibly busy over the Easter holidays making sure the next topic is ready to go online. The new topic is all to do with the Caribbean! Maybe you could start to have a think over the weekend about the Caribbean and what it would be like to live there.
Did you see Captain Tom Moore complete his 100th lap of his garden to raise money for the NHS Charities Together? His target was to raise £1000 but after his challenge made the headline news, he managed to raise a staggering £12 million and counting! At 99 years old, he’s truly an inspiration to us all! Well done Captain Tom Moore. This just proves that age is just a number!
Miss Thomas and I had a little bake off in our kitchens yesterday. Miss Thomas made Banana Bread and a Victoria Sponge Cake – both looked amazing when I saw her photos (just a shame I couldn’t taste either of them!). My eldest son had been asking me to make a Ginger Bread Cake for a while. I finally managed to locate all the ingredients this week and so last night, he devoured a huge piece of Ginger Bread Cake with warm custard – he was in his element! Have you been able to bake at all? What have you managed to create in kitchen?
Don’t forget you can email us on year5@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!
Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
Deux – Time capsule – Can you complete the document below to reflect on in years to come?
Trois – Den/Fort building – Can you make a den or fort and have a picnic inside?
Quatre – Pebble/Stone art – Can you decorate a pebble or stone? Perhaps you could leave it outside to make people smile when they’re completing their daily exercise.
Cinq – Postcard – Can you create a postcard to send to a loved one or a friend that you miss?
Six – Bird feeder – Can you recycle an old milk carton to turn it into a bird feeder or bath?
Sept – Shadow drawing – Can you use the lovely sunshine to create a shadow drawing?
Huit – Boris – Can you make your own Boris the robot out of recycling?
Neuf – Animation – Can you use lego or play dough to create an animation (taking lots of photographs as you change their position slightly to make it look like it’s moving)?
Onze – Juggle –Can you learn to juggle? Perhaps using Easter eggs (If there are any left! Although maybe start with socks so that they don’t crack all over the floor!) https://www.wikihow.com/Juggle
Hopefully by now, you should have received an email about the class Zoom video calls next week. If you haven’t, please check your junk emails first then email the Year 4 team if there are still any issues. Please ensure that you read the email carefully as there is a lot of information. I know some children have already emailed in to say how excited they are – we are too!
Home Learning
Friday is here already which means it is coming to the end of the Easter Holidays. Next week, we will continue with our daily Home Learning tasks which we will post the night before to help make preparation easier. Our theme for next week will be ‘Inventors and Inventions’ followed by ‘Big Cats’ in week two, so you have an idea of what is coming up.
Before Monday comes, we wanted to share some thoughts with you about learning at home. Please be assured that we do understand that every family is in a different position – some families are juggling learning with children in different year groups, some have parents working from home, others may even be facing children who aren’t always wanting to learn. Please remember that the work we are setting each day is optional and although we believe it will be helpful in most cases, it is not an expectation to complete everything. You have to make it work for your individual family and your situation; we are a phone call or an email away if you ever need support. Your child’s happiness is most important to us.
Hopefully most of you have had contact with an adult at school, whether through email or phone. It is lovely to hear from yourselves and the children, whether that be sending in their work or just a little update about how you are getting on. If you haven’t had any school contact yet, then hopefully we either see you in the video chat next week, or we will be on contact. Thank you for your support over the last few weeks.
From Miss Hardy, Mrs Happy, Miss Goddard and Mrs Tunnicliffe
Well it’s nearly the end of the Easter break. We hope you’ve had fun and not eaten too much. Next week we will start our new topic and set you some activities for your home learning. Have you had chance to make a kite? or a sock bunny? There is still time – don’t forget to send us a picture to our email account, we love opening your emails and seeing all your wonderful work (we are working).
So your challenge for this weekend is – How many times can you get someone to say thank you to you for completing an act of kindness. This could be helping with your younger brother or sister, helping tidy up (without being asked) or helping make dinner. Let us know how you did after the weekend.
Don’t forget we will announce the winners of the lego competition MONDAY. You have till Sunday to get these into us!
Have a lovely weekend – See you for your online learning Monday!
Year 3 Team
Share your work!
We’d love to share a piece of artwork your child has done. It can be of anything – a rainbow for the NHS, a piece of home learning, a poster, a drawing, a painting, a design, anything! Just make sure you only send in a photo of the work, not the child or anything on the photo that may identify them (e.g. full name). Simply email it to posters@stmarksce.org.uk and we’ll do the rest! We’ll make a video montage of it, and share it on our website. We would love to have as many entries as possible. Closing date is Sunday 19th April!
Reminders for your parents this week – Do as much or as little as you would like
The Easter activities are included in Tuesday 14th April post. These are aimed to provide some down time or entertainment over the break. They are completely optional and can be used as you wish as a family – if you prefer some of the activities on different year groups, please do use these. This also applies to the additional daily activities that are included. You can do as much or as little as you like.
We are still regularly checking our emails over the Easter break, so please do not hesitate to email us with any questions, concerns, to share your work with us, or just to say hello. Our email address is: year3@stmarksce.org.uk
As stated on our website ‘The National Geographic’ are releasing a free children’s magazine online each day for the next three months. If you would like to access this resource, please click here.
Take a look here for some HeartSmart videos you may like to share as a family.
