Year 5 – Tuesday 28th April

Good Morning Year 5

blank

We hope you enjoyed seeing our message to you yesterday and you enjoyed your day. Did you manage to go out in the cloudier weather or did you make the most of being indoors?

You are all doing so brilliantly and we are amazed with all of the work we are getting sent in!

We were sent this excellent picture from Oliver which he took last Thursday when clapping for carers. If you take part in this, keep a look out and see if you can spot the light this Thursday!

New Resource Alert!

blank

We have signed all of you up to have an account on the Scholastic website where you can complete some reading and reading comprehensions whenever you and your parents would like. This is not an extra daily task that you have to complete, it is just another extra resource that you can access if you would like to practise your reading skills a little more.
For now, your teachers have assigned you three books to have a look at. We will assign you more as you need them, if you use the resource. If you run out of books, remember you can drop us an email and ask for some more.
You will receive an email with your username and password plus the log in instructions soon.
Good Luck and Happy Reading!

Year 5 Team

Helpful Reminders

Don’t forget you can email us on year5@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!

Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.

Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.

Marvellous Maths

Today we will be starting the summer term units of work. To begin with we will be working on adding decimals within 1. There is a video on the website to support you whilst working through the worksheet – to watch click here. We are working on Summer term – Week 1 (w/c 20th April) lesson 1 – adding decimals within 1. Remember you don’t need to print it, you can just write it down on a piece of paper, just try your best with what you have around you!

Excellent English

For English today we are again looking at poems in ‘The Lost Words’. We would just like you to enjoy some of the poems from the book and think about which your favourite might be!

Spectacular Science

As our science this term is all about living things, plants and animals, today we would like you to explore variation in animals. To start with, there is a PowerPoint to look through. After you have looked through the PowerPoint try and hunt for some animals, whether outside or virtually and categorise them using the PowerPoint for help!

Optional Daily Time Fillers

As well as the learning tasks we upload each day, there are a few ‘extras’ that you could have a go at, if you get time and would like to.

  • Maths Challenges Page – Remember to look at the Maths Challenges page that Miss Goddard is creating each day by clicking here
  • TT Rockstars – Practise your times tables
  • Numbots – Use your TT Rockstars login and work through the easier levels to get to the trickier ones.
  • Spelling Shed – Practise your spellings for this week (remember you can email in for your username and password).
  • Reading – Read a book, newspaper, online article or comic for 20 minutes.
  • Spellings – Complete your Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check each day.

The End!
