This week’s news from Year 2
The children have made an amazing start to Year 1. They are settling well into the new routines and have completed some super learning. We have enjoyed learning about ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ in our English writing and are enjoying watching our real-live caterpillars grow. In art, we have learnt about colour mixing using paint and have created some beautiful paintings using our new skills.
This term we are learning about our ‘Sensational Senses’. Please see the attached knowledge organiser and curriculum information sheet to find out more about our learning. We look forward to seeing you at our Year 1 Key Information Evening on Monday 26th September at 5.45pm where we will share more about Year 1 with you.
Thank you for all your support.

All of the children have settled so well over the past 2 weeks! We are so proud of how well they have learnt the class rules and routines and how they have settled into life in Year R. It has been wonderful to see them all making new friends and playing so nicely together during Discovery Time. We have really enjoyed getting to know your children better.
Now we have had a settling in period, we are ready to begin our Phonics teaching next week and Maths teaching the following week!
Before we begin, we have recorded two information videos which explain our approach to teaching English and Maths in Year R. We hope that you find them useful and you feel better informed about how you can support your child at home.

We have all thoroughly enjoyed meeting you and your children properly over the last week and beginning to get to know you. We really appreciate you giving us such a warm welcome into your homes, so thank you from us all in Year R.
The children have all been amazing as they’ve come into school; they’ve shown such resilience and risk taking in the face of their new adventure and lots of curiosity as they’ve met new classmates and explored their new classrooms and outside learning areas. Everyone’s gone home smiling!
As we explained on our home visits we will post a half termly newsletter during the first week of each half term. These newsletters will give you an overview of what we will be teaching your child during the half term so you can support them with their learning at home.
This term we will spend the first three weeks focussing on settling the children into school before beginning our Phonics and Maths teaching.
During this period we will be:
