Our incredible Wellbeing Champions – launching the week in Worship, greeting families on the gate, leading mindfulness puzzle events every lunch time and running our Mindfulness Market.
St Mark’s Heroes who came to bake with different year groups throughout the week – Claire T, Heather C, Michelle D, Slyvia and Claudia
Beechdown Sports Club – Tanya Perkins and Mel Trump – led sessions with years 4 & 6
Kath from Relax Kids – led relaxation sessions with years 3 & 5
Luna from Perform-for-schools – led sessions for years R, 1 & 2
Sian Storey – Lion Mural which incorporates all elements of our whole school ethos using stencils that have been designed by the children. Each class had a strand from our ethos.

Feedback from NSPCC

I have to tell you, that all 3 of the NSPCC volunteers are regular visitors to our Hampshire schools and they each contacted me individually after the delivery to tell me that St Marks is the nicest, friendliest most welcoming school they have ever been to I do hope that puts a smile on your face as much as it did mine… They also said that every class they visited was an absolute delight. I hope your children are VERY proud of themselves too.

17 May 2024 – Newsletter – Wellbeing week and Sports Day details

Our Year 6 pupils have been SUPERB this week as they have done their SATs. So calm, kind and hard working. We are so proud of them all. Thank you also to the adults that made it all happen- you are amazing :)

Next week, we look forward to Wellbeing Week and Sports Day! Full details in the red and green section below. Reminders-

⭐Wellbeing Week – NEXT WEEK⭐:

Don’t Forget… Monday – ‘Wear a colour for wellbeing.’ – They’ll be buckets on the gate for donations to help fundraise for the week.
Mindfulness Market stall – Monday – Thursday at Lunchtimes – see timetable in the section below for your child’s year group will visit. All items 50p.
Please can all children wear PE kit on the following days, as we are having Sports Day practice: Tuesday 21st May for Years R, 1, 2 and Wednesday 22nd May for Years 3, 4, 5, 6
Sports Day is on Friday

Wellbeing Week - 20th - 24th May

Key information for Wellbeing Week which is next week (20^th – 24^th May)!

We are looking forward to a fantastic week. Throughout the week, the children will be taking part in lots of different activities.

DON’T FORGET… On Monday 20th May we are launching the week with ‘Wear a colour for wellbeing.’ Choose to wear red, blue, green, orange or pink non-uniform – or even all the colours! We will also be collecting money donations on the gate to help fundraise for all the different activities.

Throughout the lunch times that week the Wellbeing Champions will be running a Mindfulness Market Stall. Children will have a chance to buy different fiddle toys, colouring books and notebooks which can all help aid mindfulness. All items will be 50p each, they will be able to buy a maximum of two items and then on Thursday we will sell any remaining items.

Sports Day Details - Friday 24th May
Save the date!
- The day starts with KS2 (Yrs 3-6) sports day will start at 9.15am. KS2 parents/grandparents are invited to watch.
- Then there is a whole school picnic lunch (including parents etc) between 12.00pm – 12.35pm. No alcohol with your picnic please (yes, that’s happened before!).
- KS1 (Yrs R-2) sports day will start at 1.00pm – we will be finished by the end of the school day. Again KS1 parents/grandparents are invited to stay and watch.
- The KS1 and KS2 gates will be open during the start/finish times and over lunch. At other times, access to the school is through the office.
- For each KS1/KS2 session, the children take part in a circuit of activities; afterwards, more traditional running races take place.
- There will be no parking available at the Community Centre or in the school car park.
- On the day the children should all come to school dressed in their sports kit, wearing the coloured t-shirt for their team, without big logos if possible. Let us know if your child is uncertain of their team colour. They should also bring a named water bottle.
- Once KS2 children have finished their sports day (around 12pm), they will return to their classes to be registered, go to the toilet and to collect their packed lunch if necessary. It might be wise for one parent to go and collect them from classes for the picnic. After the picnic, the children return to classes for the afternoon.
- Once KS1 children have finished their sports day around 3pm, they will need to return to their classes to be registered and to collect their home bits. Please collect their from classroom doors as normal.

Walk to School Week

Next week is Wellbeing week at St. Mark’s. Alongside this, we are going to be having our Walk to School Week to help to promote being outdoors, spending time together and physical exercise. We hope that your children will be able to take part in some way- walking, scooting or cycling for all or part of their journey. Please see the letter that your child brought home for further information.

TOMORROW!!! DIY Help on Sat 18th May – can you help?

We really need 6 helpers to move 2 tonnes of sand from the front to the back, and also level out and compact 2 areas of our site with the sand. Wheelbarrows and spades would be helpful. 9am – 12pm Sat 18th May. Email adminoffice@st-markscofe.hants.sch.uk if you can help, or just show up! Children welcome to come with you.

At their last meeting, FOSM agreed to use funds for the school to purchase:

Forest school and farm resources on an annual basis
New chromebooks (laptops), licenses and a trolley
A new heavy-duty laminator.

Gabriel in 2B made it through to the finals of the Peter Houseman cup with his team, Berg U7s, last Sunday. Unfortunately, they lost in the finals, but he was super excited to have come runner up in his first year of football.

A note from Mr Applegate

A bee-sy week at St Mark’s! Thankfully our large bee-colony has been moved elsewhere. Thanks for your understanding in this all.

Good luck to our Year 6 pupils next week as they sit their SATs tests. Not that they need it. We’re so proud of their attitude, and the hard work they’ve put in. A reminder for Year 6 parents… Children who wish to join the SATs breakfast, please enter via the Y6 gate from 8:10am.

Please can all children wear PE kit on the following days, as we are having Sports Day practice:

Tuesday 21st May for Years R, 1, 2
Wednesday 22nd May for Years 3, 4, 5, 6

Finally, a little request: please can children not bring in their own table tennis bats. We have good ones for them to use, and it can cause difficulty when they bring their own. Thanks!

On Monday 20^th May we are launching the week with ‘Wear a colour for wellbeing.’ Choose to wear red, blue, green, orange or pink non-uniform – or even all the colours! We will also be collecting money donations on the gate to help fundraise for all the different activities.

Throughout the lunch times that week the Wellbeing Champions will be running a Mindfulness Market Stall. Children will have a chance to buy different fiddle toys, colouring books and notebooks which can all help aid mindfulness. All items will be 50p each.

Isabelle Ru and Isabelle Ra in 5E both competed in the Southern Region Aerobic Gymnastics competition at the weekend. Isabelle Ru won gold medals for her Pair routine and Izzy Ra came 6th in her individual routine.

A note from Mr Applegate

Summer term is definitely well on the way, even if the weather isn’t quite there. From Year 6 pupils working hard for their SATs, to our Year 1 pupils loving Forest School, all children continue to make us proud.

Look out for an email regarding your child’s sports day colour. We ask that they wear a t-shirt of this colour (or as close to it as you can). Details about sports day are below.

Tesco Funding - Vote for St Mark's

From Mid January to March, all of the Tescos in Basingstoke will have tokens available to ‘vote’ for a project – including our very own St Mark’s Farm and Forest School projects. This could be worth up to £10,000!
