Year 1 – Your Amazing Home Learning!

Good morning Year 6. Can you believe it is Friday already? We hope that you have enjoyed the first week of our summer term. Thank you for all the emails that you have sent of the lovely work that you have done so far this week. It’s great to see all the things that you have been up to. Take a look at the selection of this week’s amazing work in the slideshow below…
We hope you have had some time to relax too and if not make sure you have a rest at the weekend!
Home Worship – some of the teachers have put together a Worship for you today about St. George. If you would like to find out all about him, click on the picture:
Have a lovely day and remember – we are REALLY proud of you all :)
Mrs Silvester, Miss Pettitt and Mrs Chapman
Don’t forget you can email us on year6@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!
Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
As well as the learning tasks we upload each day, there are a few ‘extras’ that you could have a go at, if you get time.
TTRockstars – Play 5 garage games + 5 studio games.
Reading – Read for at least 20 minutes every day.
Weekly spellings – Practise these everyday in your spelling booklets – your new weekly sheet will be uploaded each Monday. Week 1 Main Spelling List Week 1 Less Tricky Spelling List
Jae Malone, the author of ‘Silver Linings’ unfortunately could not visit us last month because of the Covid situation. However, she is incredibly keen to make sure we keep our imaginations fired and let our love of writing stories grow. Therefore, she has sent some fun ideas on how to create short stories. With these writing prompts you may be able to come up with a brand new story idea that no one else has ever thought of. You don’t have to write stories down, you may picture them in your mind or be a storyteller to members of your family.
Grid – Haunting things Grid One – People and Creatures Seaside Columns
As well as these fun story creating ideas, she has set us an exciting challenge. If you would like to win a signed set of Jae Malone’s trilogy, then why not enter her creative writing competition?
All you have to do is send your completed Indiana story from last term. If you have already sent us uploaded photos of your completed story or sent it as a Word document, then all you have to do is ask us to submit it to Jae’s competition. If you didn’t send us your completed story, you have until 4th May to complete your story and send it to us. Remember to use the year6@stmarksce.org.uk address for your entries.
Daily physical activity which you enjoy. Challenge yourself! Remember Joe Wicks is still there to keep us moving.
You’ve completed your Success in Seven for this week so why not spend a few minutes going through your times tables like we do in class :)
Here is a Times Table Grid to fill in electronically. Try Level 3 and then when you’re confident, Level 4. You can do it!
CGP Books
Each Friday, we will use our CGP books for our Maths work. Don’t worry if you haven’t got yours. We will always upload a scan of the pages we’d like you to complete. Either print them off or just complete the answers neatly into your Maths book. When you have finished the pages, you may check your answers carefully using the CGP answer booklets that we sent home, or the scanned answers below.
Arithmetic book – subtraction
We are going to revise subtraction today and all of the tasks are in your Arithmetic book. We are going to complete pages 4, 5, 6, 7, 26 and 27.
Remember to read each question carefully as you will need to exchange in some of them :). When subtracting decimals, remember to line the decimal points up.
Here are the pages if you don’t have your book. If they download upside down, there is a rotate button in the top right of the screen:
1. Arithmetic Book Pages 4&5 – Written Subtraction
2. Arithmetic Book Pages 6&7 – Written Subtraction
3. Arithmetic Book Pages 26&27 – Subtracting Decimals
When you’re finished, check each question carefully. Do all of your answers make sense? Here are the answers:
If that wasn’t enough for you and you fancy even more maths, then Miss Goddard’s Daily Maths Challenge can be found if you click here.
Each Friday, we will use our CGP SPaG books for our English work. Don’t worry if you haven’t got yours. We will always upload a scan of the pages we’d like you to complete. Either print them off or just complete the answers neatly into your ‘Home Book’. When you have finished the pages, you may check your answers carefully using the CGP answer booklets that we sent home, or the scanned answers below.
Punctuation book – capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks
We are going to revise some basic punctuation today and all of the tasks are in your Punctuation book. We are going to complete pages 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Remember to read each question carefully – it can really help if you read it out loud :)
Here are the pages if you don’t have your book:
1. Punctuation Book Pages 2&3 Capital Letters and Full Stops
2. Punctuation Book Pages 4&5 Exclamation and Question Marks
When you’re finished, check each question carefully. Do all of your answers make sense? Here are the answers:
Why not chill out with a book on the sofa afterwards?
In the back of your Home Book, please write today’s short date and title: Spelling test.
Ask someone in your house to test you on this week’s spellings – remember to get them to ask you the words in a random order and within a sentence to remind you of the meaning.
Then you can mark them together. Thank you for sending us pictures of your results too! :)
This half term in PE we are going to be completing our own Home Olympics! We have a range of activities for you to have a go at. There are 5 activities which require different skills. See if you can complete each one. For each activity you need to count how many repetitions you are able to do in a certain time or time yourself and see how long you can keep going. A stop watch or a timer on a phone would be useful for these activities. There is also a record card that you can download or you can just keep a record of your scores as we will repeat these activities over the next few weeks so that you can see if you have improved. Did you manage to get any bronze, silver or gold awards today in the events? Competitive Miss Pettitt MUST get gold! :D
It’s that time again year 5!!! We have another TT Rockstars battle with Year 4!! Today between 9am and 3pm we will be battling Year 4 again. Last time we battled we won, so lets make that happen again. Even if you can only get on for 10 minutes, please do – help us to beat year 4 again!
Thank you for sending in your descriptive writing and your art from yesterday. We were amazed by the amount of effort and detail included, they were fantastic. Please keep sending them in for us to look at.
Some of the teachers have created a Worship for this week. If you would like you access the worship, click here.
Exciting news for 5F! The long awaited Zoom video call has been scheduled for Monday 27th April at 10:30am. Miss Fowler is really looking forward to seeing as many members of 5F as she can. Your parents should have an email with details of how to log in for the chat. We will be completing a true or false European Countries quiz. For this you will need a piece of paper with true written on one side and false written on the other side (if you can’t then thumbs up and down will work too!). Miss Fowler is really looking forward to catching up.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend, enjoy your break from working and make the most of the time you can go outside and enjoying yourself. Remember to stay positive.

Today your jobs are Maths and Reading. We has also included and topic lesson for today, where we will be continuing to think about the Caribbean. Remember that you can also do:
Today you are going to continue your work on Percentages, but today comparing them with fractions and decimals. Today is Week 2 – Lesson 4 Percentages as Fractions and Decimals (remember we are not on summer term yet). Please remember to use the video to help you.
As we haven’t been able to do Book Club, every Friday we are going to be completing a Reading Comprehension job. On the word document below there is a section of a story for you to read and then some questions for you to answer about what you have read.
Remember to use the story to help you.
Today you are going to continue to think about the Caribbean, more specifically the countries in the Caribbean. Go through the PowerPoint and then label the countries on the map using an atlas or Google Maps.
Good morning everyone. The sun is shining even brighter today, so we hope that it is helping you feel positive. What good deeds did you get up to yesterday? Could you do more today, these are the best bits of the news to watch, because they remind us of all the amazing things people are doing. Do share any of your good ideas or kind things you have done with us.
We have set up a TTRockstars battle for today with Year 5. If you play any games between 9am and 3pm they will count to our score. The teachers will try and help you, but we need as many of you as possible to have a go even if it is only a few games – everyone’s efforts help!
We have really enjoyed looking at all the work you have sent us, especially your ideas about how inventions will develop in the future. We wonder if any of them will come true. Excitingly, Miss Stonehouse has added a French lesson for you to try today. Access it with the same password as before.
Did you know today is DNA day? DNA makes up the cells from which we are all made, it is passed from parents to children and is different for everyone. So it is a day to celebrate a discovery rather than an invention but scientists are always working hard to find ways of improving our lives by understanding how DNA works and using it to solve medical problems. In English today, you will be finding out about a famous inventor many of whom are scientists. I think some of the greatest inventions have been medical. Do you agree?

Have a good weekend.

Use your digital logins to play the following:-
Today’s lesson is all about dividing by 100 which we have worked on earlier in the year with whole numbers. Today you will be able to divide smaller numbers and include decimals in your answer. Using the place value charts will help you remember to move each digit 2 places to the right. Remember when you use the Gattengo chart you will need to move down rather than across. Here is the White rose video link to help you.
For children who are completing their Maths with ease, and who would like further challenge, Miss Goddard is started a ‘Daily Maths Challenge’ page on the school website where she will upload a new set of challenges everyday. If you complete today’s work and would like to access it, please click here.
All week, you have been learning about inventions and inventors. Today, we would like you to focus on one inventor. That inventor could be someone you already know a little about, it could be someone you have learned about this week or you could start some research about someone new!
You can present your work however you like – a poster (handwritten or on the computer), a PowerPoint, an information booklet or even a standard piece of writing! Try to cover the answers to the following questions in your work:
There is a lovely idea below of a poster – it has all the information along with pictures and ‘Fun Facts!’
Miss Stonehouse is back with a French video for you. In this Youtbe video below, she will be describing animals using colours. Give it a go trying to copy some of the sentences she reads out. Remember that in French, the adjective comes after the noun unlike in English – for example we would say ‘the brown dog’ but they would say ‘the dog brown’ (or le chien brun!)

You may choose to complete these daily, weekly or a couple of times a week.
You can find lots of learning resources that we have collated on the Educating Home Page. Click here to be redirected.
Today, we are continuing our work on Fractions using the White Rose Maths Lessons. This will involve watching the video clip and completing the worksheet. There is an answer sheet to check your work.
Please complete Week 2 Lesson 5 – Equivalent Fractions – This lesson builds on your knowledge of the numerator and denominator in fractions to help you compare them. You will look at bar models to help you to see if the fractions are equivalent.
You can find the video and resources for today’s lesson here https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/
Make sure you click on week 2, Lesson 5. Watch the clip and follow the instructions.
Resources you will need:
Please remember if you don’t have a printer you can copy into your maths book or onto paper. Try and complete as best as you can.
When you have finished use the answer sheet to mark your work.
Things to remember
• Remember the denominator (the bottom number) tells you how many equal parts you divide the whole into. So if you are finding 2/3 the 3 will tell you how many sections to split your bar model into.
• Remember the numerator (the top number) tells you how many parts we are looking at.
• Bar models must be the same size when comparing fractions.
• For question 7 use your knowledge of multiples of 4 to help you.
Want an extra Maths Challenge?
For children who are completing their Maths with ease, and who would like further challenge, Miss Goddard is starting a ‘Daily Maths Challenge’ page on the school website where she will upload a new set of challenges everyday. If you complete today’s work and would like to access it, please click here.
Today for English you are going to write a setting description for the two scenes you have read about so far. Work through the PowerPoint and then start your description. If you would like to type your work today – Please do and send it to us after.
