As we can’t see each other at school, I thought I’d send you a message online.
This week, we were supposed to create our own smoothies. I understand not all of us will have a great deal of fresh fruit etc. at home. If you can make one, then post your recipe back to us and possibly a photo; otherwise maybe invent one you’ll try when you next get the opportunity? Nothing too unusual please because if I like the recipe I might try it and let you know how yummy it is! Be creative ???? I’ve got some bananas that are a little too under-ripe at the moment, but as soon as they’re yellow enough one’s being blitzed with strawberries from the freezer and apple juice and maybe a surprise – just not sure what that could be yet. OR… banana, peanut butter (as we’re not in school), maple syrup and some milk… Oh decisions!?!
How are we all coping with everything going on – last Friday seems a world away now ☹ I’m sure you’re missing everyone too. I’m working with Mrs Long to see if it is possible for us to meet as a group using a safe online platform and will let you know as soon as I can.
In the meantime, know that you’re very much in mind! Keep yourselves and loved ones safe and well. I’m aiming to post weekly so keep your eyes peeled.
Send your email to your year group teachers and we will get to see your fabulous work!
Unfortunately the awards ceremony planned for Sunday at QMC has had to be cancelled due to the current situation. Certificates for all children who took part in the creative writing competition will be delivered to school tomorrow and will be distributed in the afternoon. For any child who is not attending school this week, their certificate can be collected from the office between 2pm and 4pm tomorrow afternoon. Remaining certificates will be kept safely in school until our return and we will scan and email copies of the certificate with the judges feedback to you in the meantime.
With many thanks for supporting our young creative writers,
Good Morning to our wonderful Year 6 children who are unable to attend school today!
We hope you are all healthy and happy at home. It has been very quiet without you and we are certainly missing you!
Have you enjoyed your home learning so far? It has been so wonderful to see some of the work you have completed over the last few days; in such a strange, uneasy situation, it has brought a huge smile to our faces so please, please keep it up!
From Monday, as you will all be learning from home, there will not be weekly ‘homework’! Pages from our CGP books which we would normally set will be completed as a dedicated maths and SPaG lesson on a Friday. This will begin next week.
Don’t forget you can email us on year6@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you.
Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
Ongoing Daily Activities
As well as the learning tasks we upload each day, there are a few ‘extras’ that you could have a go at, if you get time.
TTRockstars – Play 5 garage games + 5 studio games. We will be setting a weekly ‘meet’ in the arena for you to play against each other and us teachers! Hopefully, we can also set up weekly ‘battles’ where each class can battle against another class.
Reading – Read for at least 20 minutes every day.
Weekly spellings – Practise these everyday in your spelling booklets.
Daily physical activity of some sort
Maths
We are continuing our learning of reading scales today – this time in the context of capacity. This will involve knowing key conversions between L and ML.
Please see attached powerpoint with some audio help again from Mrs Silvester (you may require Quicktime for this to play). Please also see below a choice of two levels of work – both of which have 2 sheets with Part 1, 2 and 3.
Today you will be starting to write your Indiana Jones adventure story! Please see the attached powerpoint to help you.
We have also attached a WAGOLL (what a good one looks like) of an introduction – this is ONLY for children who were not at school when we wrote our introductions and therefore haven’t got one. Use your plan to begin your story!
We are hoping by the end of next week, you will have completed your stories; we can’t wait to read them! Hopefully your parents might be able to send us photos of your final story, or you could even publish them on a word document and email that across.
This afternoon in school, we are enjoying some free time. We hope you will enjoy your afternoon too! Maybe watch a film, or if it sunny head outside for some fresh air.
We hope you are well, working hard and being helpful around the house. Thank you for all your emails so far, it has been lovely to talk to some of you and your parents and hear about how you are managing yourself with schedules and how you are choosing to complete all of your jobs. If you haven’t yet emailed, we would love to hear from you at year5@stmarksce.org.uk
We are extremely proud of how you have overcome this new and strange situation and how resilient you are being with your work by emailing in and asking for help, that is exactly what we are here for.
We have had some emails asking for answers for Maths and Grammar Hammer jobs, Miss Thomas has made some answer sheets for those and is happy to send them across to you if you send her an email.
Don’t forget you can email us on year5@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We will be respond between the hours of 9 and 4.30, and will respond as soon as we can.
Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here to print off.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
Daily Activities
As we have previously been doing, you will have specific subjects jobs to do. However, we will be slightly reducing the amount of jobs we set to 3. This gives you more time to help out at home, get some fresh air and do some of the other important daily jobs, which are listed below.
TTRockstars – Play 5 garage games. – At 3pm today (Friday) I will be online in the Arena section of Rockstars to challenge as many of you as can log in at that time. My name on Rockstars ‘Missy Flowers’ – Miss T
Reading – Read for at least 20 mins.
Spellings – Practise these everyday, maybe ask someone to test you? (new list to be sent on Monday)
Maths
Today in Maths you will be continuing to subtract fractions, but this time they will all be with 2 mixed numbers. There were a few of these to do yesterday, but this gives you more time to practise and consolidate this skill. The same as yesterday, there is an optional challenge on the bottom, so don’t feel like you have to do it but please try if you feel comfortable. There were a few emails yesterday regarding the video being of help, so Miss T has done another one today to help you get started. Find the link in the video section below, using the same password as yesterday. But as always, please do email if you need any help.
We have combined Book Club with English from now on, so you will need to start by watching the video of Mrs Poole reading Chapter 18 of Millions, link in videos section below, same password. Then we are going to continue to think about the character of Glass Eye, so start by answering the questions and then writing a diary entry as if you were him. We only expect you to be writing for about 15-20 minutes.
Today you will be continuing to look at the capital city Vienna, but today it is about modern day Vienna. The PowerPoint below gives you some key facts, and then goes into detail about the key identity features for this city. Your end job is to write a short story about a character visiting this city for the first time, making sure you include some of the main features of the city (more information on the slides)
