It would be great to see some work from everyone this week – don’t be shy. Just take a photograph of what you have done and send it to us at year6@stmarksce.org.uk as an attachment. You can earn recognition points with work that shows you’re working hard.
You are doing so well making sure you try your home-learning tasks everyday and we couldn’t be more proud of you.

Today, we would like you to use Summer Term Week 2 Lesson 2 – Angles in regular polygons. Watch the video and pause it if to answer Q1 to 4. Restart the video to hear the explanation of how to approach Q5. This last set of problems in question 5 are really tricky and for those mathematicians who love a challenge. Do not worry if you are not able to do these yet.

Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!
Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
Ongoing Daily Activities
As well as the learning tasks we upload each day, there are a few ‘extras’ that you could have a go at, if you get time.
TTRockstars – Play 5 garage games + 5 studio games. Mrs Chapman will be online at 11am today in the Year 6 Arena area provided the website is running properly. Her TT Rockstar name is Zander Madden and will play games in the Wembley Stadium area.
Reading – Read for at least 20 minutes every day. Remember you all have logins for the Scholastic reading site.

Daily physical activity which you enjoy. Challenge yourself! Remember Joe Wicks is still there to keep us moving.
Competition Reminder – closing date 4th May
Jae Malone, the author of ‘Silver Linings’ unfortunately could not visit us last month because of the Covid situation. However, she is incredibly keen to make sure we keep our imaginations fired and let our love of writing stories grow. Therefore, she has sent some fun ideas on how to create short stories. With these writing prompts you may be able to come up with a brand new story idea that no one else has ever thought of. You don’t have to write stories down, you may picture them in your mind or be a storyteller to members of your family.
Grid – Haunting things Grid One – People and Creatures Seaside Columns
As well as these fun story creating ideas, she has set us an exciting challenge. If you would like to win a signed set of Jae Malone’s trilogy, then why not enter her creative writing competition?
All you have to do is send your completed Indiana story from last term. If you have already sent us uploaded photos of your completed story or sent it as a Word document, then all you have to do is ask us to submit it to Jae’s competition. If you didn’t send us your completed story, you have until 4th May to complete your story and send it to us. Remember to use the year6@stmarksce.org.uk address for your entries.
Bye for now!
Year 5 – Tuesday 28th April
Good Morning Year 5
We hope you enjoyed seeing our message to you yesterday and you enjoyed your day. Did you manage to go out in the cloudier weather or did you make the most of being indoors?
You are all doing so brilliantly and we are amazed with all of the work we are getting sent in!
We were sent this excellent picture from Oliver which he took last Thursday when clapping for carers. If you take part in this, keep a look out and see if you can spot the light this Thursday!

Marvellous Maths
Today we will be starting the summer term units of work. To begin with we will be working on adding decimals within 1. There is a video on the website to support you whilst working through the worksheet – to watch click here. We are working on Summer term – Week 1 (w/c 20th April) lesson 1 – adding decimals within 1. Remember you don’t need to print it, you can just write it down on a piece of paper, just try your best with what you have around you!
Below will be the answers for the White Rose worksheet and the challenges we have created for you.
Excellent English
For English today we are again looking at poems in ‘The Lost Words’. We would just like you to enjoy some of the poems from the book and think about which your favourite might be!
Spectacular Science
As our science this term is all about living things, plants and animals, today we would like you to explore variation in animals. To start with, there is a PowerPoint to look through. After you have looked through the PowerPoint try and hunt for some animals, whether outside or virtually and categorise them using the PowerPoint for help!

Year 4 Tuesday 28th April
Good Morning Year 4!
Good morning everyone, we hope you enjoyed your first day of learning about Big Cats! It was lovely to see some of your posters and fact files. We will continue the theme of Big Cats today with a bit more writing and some art work. As the week goes on, we hope that you will become real experts about your chosen Big Cat. We will also be looking at them through science and finding out about food chains.
Email Contact
As you may have read in Mr Applegate’s Newsletter this week, it would be lovely to hear from parents or children once a week if possible. You could send us a couple of sentences, a piece of work or even a photo of what the children have been up to. It doesn’t have to be school related, it would just be nice to hear from everyone. Equally, there is no pressure to email everyday but of course it is lovely to see all the work that the children are producing.
Scholastic Reading Library
We are delighted to see that some of you have accessed the Scholastic Reading Pro Library resource. To give you a little more information about this, this resource is like an electronic library where you or the children can choose the books you to read. Once you have logged in with the details which we emailed out, then go to ‘Reading Pro Library’ and then click on the ‘Books’ tab along the top. Here, you will be able to look through books of different ability levels and of different topics. You can search a topic or even filter books by level. We are not actively assigning books to children however, if you would like us to assign books to your child, do drop us an email on the Year 4 email account. It would be helpful to us if you could give us an idea of the type of books too.
Have a terrific Tuesday, and please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries.

Maths – Write decimals
In today’s Maths lesson, we will be learning how to write decimals using tenths and hundredths. We will be using place value charts and part whole models to support our understanding of this. It is important to remember to use zero (0) as a place holder where necessary. In the video, decimals are also linked to fractions, you will need to watch it carefully to make sure that you fully understand. Here is the link for the White Rose video, remember it is: Summer term, week 1, lesson 2.
For children who are completing their Maths with ease, and who would like further challenge, Miss Goddard is started a ‘Daily Maths Challenge’ page on the school website where she will upload a new set of challenges everyday. If you complete today’s work and would like to access it, please click here.
English – Creating a ‘Deadly 60’ report
For your English work today, we would like you to write a Deadly 60 style report based on your chosen big cat. I have watched a few Deadly 60 episodes and noticed that Steve Backshall likes to use lots of alliteration in his reports so you might like to try to do the same, he also uses similes and powerful adjectives. I have written a report about the snow leopard as an example, they really are fascinating creatures. In order to do some research I used the National Geographic and National Geographic Kids sites, which we have provided links for, you might also wish to watch some of the Deadly 60 episodes to get an idea of how Steve Backshall reports. The reports are not long, but do give a clear explanation of the animals that he reports on. Think about how powerful your chosen cat is and how it uses its legs, tail and paws, how do these make it so deadly?
You might also like to film your report once you have written it!
Topic – Art observational drawing of a big cat
You’ve been working hard to find out lots of information about your chosen big cat. Now is your opportunity to use your observational drawing skills to find out a little more about your animal’s appearance. Miss Goddard will model how to use observational skills to draw a big cat in the Youtube Video below. You can search on Google images for a picture you would like to draw, but there are also some pictures below you can download and use if you wish.
Please send in your drawings as we would love to showcase them in a gallery later this week.

Year 3 – Tuesday 28th April
Good Morning Year 3
Happy Tuesday, We have been receiving lots of emails with fantastic pieces of work. Your work ethic with all your home learning has made all of your teachers very proud, so keep this up! Keep looking through the pictures of work as these change daily and you might be able to spot yours.
After your lovely sunny weekends, it seems that the sun has gone for a rest for a while. What else could you be doing on the rainy days that are coming up this week? Some baking? Maybe some reading in cosy corner? There is a book link below you could use to hear the story of Kid Normal. Do some more research on bees? Play some games with your family?
One of the Year 3 children has found this brilliant video on beekeeping and wanted to share it with everyone else. What lovely teamwork from the bees! Thank you Marcus for finding this for us. Click Here.

Maths
Today, we are continuing our work on Fractions using the White Rose Maths Lessons. This will involve watching the video clip and completing the worksheet. There is an answer sheet to check your work.
Please complete Summer Term Week 1 Lesson 2 – Equivalent Fractions 3 – This lesson builds on your knowledge from yesterday’s work on equivalent fractions, you will use a fraction wall to compare fractions and to help you find equivalent fractions.
You can find the video and resources for today’s lesson here https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/
Make sure you click on Summer Term week 1, Lesson 2 Watch the clip and follow the instructions.
Resources you will need:
Please remember if you don’t have a printer you can copy into your maths book or onto paper. Try and complete as best as you can.
Don’t forget Miss Goddard’s challenges: click here.
When you have finished use the answer sheet to mark your work.
Things to remember
- Use your fraction wall to help compare the fractions.
- Remember the numerator tells you how many parts of the whole you are looking at so if you are finding 3/8 you can count three 1/8 sections on your fraction wall.
- You can multiply the numerator and the denominator by the same number to give you an equivalent fraction e.g. An equivalent fraction to 2/5 = 4/10 because if we look at 2/5 the numerator of 2 x2 = 4 and the denominator 5 x 2 = 10 so this creates the fraction 4/10.
English/ Bookclub
For today’s English you are going to need a dictionary or a computer to search for the meanings of some of the words from the book.
Once you have done that can you draw a picture to help represent the word? Can you write them in a sentence too?
Resources you will need:
- A dictionary or computer
- Paper or your book
