Year 6 – Tuesday 21st April
Hello Fantastic Year 6!
Good morning lovely kiddywinks!
We hope you slept well and enjoyed your first day of our new topic yesterday.
Remember we are still at the end of an email, so please send across any photographs of your work as we would love to see as many pieces as possible :)
Miss P was working in school last week and took this lovely picture during her Golden Mile. The school grounds look beautiful, don’t you think?
Remember to stay positive and to continue to make the most of the wonderful sunshine! You are doing amazingly and we are all so very proud of you.
Don’t forget we are having our Zoom meetings tomorrow! We cannot wait to see you all :)
Mrs Silvester, Miss Pettitt and Mrs Chapman
Helpful Reminders
Don’t forget you can email us on year6@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!
Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
Ongoing Daily Activities
As well as the learning tasks we upload each day, there are a few ‘extras’ that you could have a go at, if you get time.
TTRockstars – Play 5 garage games + 5 studio games.
Reading – Read for at least 20 minutes every day.
Weekly spellings – Practise these everyday in your spelling booklets – your new weekly sheet will be uploaded each Monday.

Jae Malone, the author of ‘Silver Linings’ unfortunately could not visit us last month because of the Covid situation. However, she is incredibly keen to make sure we keep our imaginations fired and let our love of writing stories grow. Therefore, she has sent some fun ideas on how to create short stories. With these writing prompts you may be able to come up with a brand new story idea that no one else has ever thought of. You don’t have to write stories down, you may picture them in your mind or be a storyteller to members of your family.
Grid – Haunting things Grid One – People and Creatures Seaside Columns
As well as these fun story creating ideas, she has set us an exciting challenge. If you would like to win a signed set of Jae Malone’s trilogy, then why not enter her creative writing competition?
All you have to do is send your completed Indiana story from last term. If you have already sent us uploaded photos of your completed story or sent it as a Word document, then all you have to do is ask us to submit it to Jae’s competition. If you didn’t send us your completed story, you have until 4th May to complete your story and send it to us. Remember to use the year6@stmarksce.org.uk address for your entries.
Daily physical activity which you enjoy. Challenge yourself! Remember Joe Wicks is still there to keep us moving.
Maths
We hope yesterday’s Maths got your brain warmed up!

Year 5 – Tuesday 21st April
Good Morning Year 5!
We hope you slept well and that you have woken up with a smile. The sunshine yesterday was lovely, we hoped that you managed to get some fresh air and we are keeping our fingers crossed that it continues to shine and cheer up our days.
Just a reminder that Miss Goddard has set up a page with some Maths challenges for you to have a go at if you would like to. Click here to go to the web page. There will be a new challenge everyday, Monday to Friday, with three levels of challenge so that children in Key Stage 1 and 2 can access these, so please look carefully at which challenge suits you best. These Mathematical challenges will require thinking, problem solving and investigative skills. Please remember that these are additional tasks which are not necessarily related to what we are learning in our year group so please ensure that you have completed our task first so that it is done.
At the bottom of this post is the spelling list for this week. I am sorry this didn’t come out to you yesterday, but I must have still had my Easter holiday brain on. They are also on Spelling Shed for you to practise there as well.
Thank you for sending pictures of your visual dictionaries – we LOVED looking at them. They were all beautiful, but unfortunately we couldn’t show them all, but loved looking at all of them.
Keep up all your hard work!
Miss Thomas and the Year 5 Team

Year 4 Tuesday 21st April
Good Morning Year 4!
We hope you are all well. It was lovely to hear comments about so many of you enjoying creating your new invention yesterday. Your creativity has blown us away! We are looking forward to reading some manuals to find out how your inventions work.
Today we are having our class Zoom chats and we have our fingers crossed that there are no technical issues! Your teachers will be hosting the chat and will have control over when you are allowed to enter the chat and also whether you are muted so you will need to listen carefully to any instructions given by your teacher. As suggested in the email, you may want to practice using Zoom to make sure it is working. Please be ready to start at the time given in the email as Zoom usually limits chats to 40 minutes and we want to see your smiling faces for as long as possible!

Maths – Hundredths
In Maths today we are introducing an even smaller decimal fraction – the hundredth. Before you have a look at the video, see if you can work out what it might be and where you will find it on a place value grid. You can watch the White Rose video here (Week 2 – Lesson 2 – Hundredths).

English – Writing an instruction manual for your invention
Following on from yesterday’s English lesson, we would like you to create a manual which goes alongside your invention to explain its features and also how it works. Miss Goddard will explain the task in the Youtube video below as well as reading you her manual for the ‘Doggy Walker 3000’ which she invented yesterday. It may be an idea to split your manual into three sections:
- Introduction – a couple of sentences introducing your invention
- Features – explain each feature of your design in full sentences and how each feature is useful to the user
- Instructions – instruct the user on how to use the invention such as how to turn it on and anything else that they need to do to get it working
Please have a read of Miss Goddard’s example as well as using the useful word bank below before having a go at writing your own.
Topic – Inventions and Inventors Crossword
Today we have a crossword for you to complete.
All the answers in the crossword are important inventions. For some, you need their full name. You might need Google to help with one or two of the answers!

Please complete Week 2 Lesson 2 – Fractions of a set of objects 1 – This lesson builds on your knowledge of Fractions. Find fractions of amounts using arrays and bar models.

Resources you will need:
Please remember if you don’t have a printer you can copy into your maths book or onto paper. Try and complete as best as you can.
When you have finished use the answer sheet to mark your work.
Things to remember
• Remember the denominator (the bottom number) tells you how many equal parts you divide the whole into.
• For question 5, 6 and 7 you might want to draw the bar models on a separate piece of paper. To find a quarter you will need 4 squares in your bar model, to find a third you will need 3 squares and a fifth will be 5 squares.
• Don’t forget to exchange a ten for 10 ones to help you divide them equally in questions 5c, 6b, 6c
• For question 8 you will need to draw the bar models and put the number of counters in the answer in each section to find the total.
