Year 6 – Wednesday 25th March

Good Morning Super Year 6!

How lucky are we to have had another beautiful day of sunshine yesterday. The weather is really helping us in this strange situation – Mrs Silv keeps popping out to the garden (mainly to retrieve the pens and pencils that Nelly, her dog, keeps stealing from her) and each time it brings a smile to her face. She is so grateful for the sun right now (and her pup – see picture below!) What are you grateful for today? Mrs Silv would love to hear your thoughts by email. Maybe your parents are being absolute heroes as your temporary ‘teachers’? Or your pets are bringing you cuddles too? Let me know!

Helpful Reminders

Don’t forget you can email us on year6@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!

Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.

Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.

Ongoing Daily Activities

As well as the learning tasks we upload each day, there are a few ‘extras’ that you could have a go at, if you get time.

TTRockstars – Play 5 garage games + 5 studio games. Mrs Silv will be online at 11am today in the Year 6 Arena area! Her TT Rockstar name is Harmony Powers.
Reading – Read for at least 20 minutes every day.
Weekly spellings – Practise these everyday in your spelling booklets – your new weekly sheet will be uploaded each Monday. Download here: Week 5 spelling sheet  or Week 5 spelling sheet less tricky
Daily physical activity of some sort

Parents – please check out the ‘Parent Support’ section of our main website page, There is a page with some helpful educational resources for you to use as ‘extras’ to what we set daily on here, ONLY if you want to!

Maths

Today for part one, we are recapping our methods of short and/or long multiplication. Part two requires us using this method as well as converting L to ml in order to solve 2-step word problems. Step 1 – multiplication. Step 2 – conversion and subtraction. No fancy powerpoint again today, but there is a Youtube video of me modelling the methods if you think you need a recap. Scroll down to the video resources at the bottom of the page and type in the password which all parents were given to access this.

English

I can use varied sentence starters and maintain my reader’s interest until the end of my story

Today we should be completing our adventure stories! Remember, we shouldn’t lose the excitement or the interest of our reader – in fact, this final part should be the most thrilling as it should including our final dilemma! Focus today on using the other three ‘ISPACED’ sentence starters. See powerpoint below to help you.

Science

Last week, lots of us learned how light travels. Beams or rays of light travel in straight lines from the light source, bounce off objects then straight into our eyes which is how we see things. Today, we are learning about reflection. Begin with the powerpoint below then there are two options: Option 1 is to make a periscope, if you have the resources to at home. Option 2 uses a worksheet to follow the pathway of a light beam as it reflects off different mirrors. Whichever option you chose, we would then like a small piece of writing to explain how reflection works.
