We hope that you have been having a wonderful week so far! We have been receiving a lot of emails showing some excellent work and we are so proud with how well everyone is doing. We are all so proud of you!
Below we have put a selection of work that we have been sent over the past few days. We love seeing what you are doing at home so please continue to email us!
Don’t forget you can email us on year5@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!
Presentation – Please remember to do your very best work. Handwriting and presentation are as important at home as they are in school. You can complete your work in a book or if you need lined or squared paper you can get it here.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities and can do independently. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
Marvellous Maths
Today we will be moving onto subtracting decimals within 1. You can access the video for today’s work by clicking here. We are working on Summer term – Week 1 (w/c 20 April) Lesson 2 – subtracting decimals within 1. Don’t forget you can also email us if you need any help. If you haven’t completed the Maths for today already, we just wanted to pre-warn you about Q7. It is very tricky and takes lots of steps. It is possible but it is very complicated so please don’t worry about attempting this question. Keep up the fab work Year 5!
For English today there is a PowerPoint for you to go through below. We then want you to explore your creative side and write your own acrostic poem. We look forward to seeing what you come up with!
As well as the learning tasks we upload each day, there are a few ‘extras’ that you could have a go at, if you get time and would like to.

English
Today we are thinking about using different sentence starters. We’ll be looking at some words called ‘adverbs’. These words describe the doing word (verb) in your sentence. Take a look at these slides to learn about using adverbs as sentence starters: Adverbs Slides
When you have finished writing your sentences, use the writing reminder pencil to check you have everything you need.
Maths
Today we are continuing to look at doubling. Can you remind someone at home what doubling is? How do you double a group of objects? If you need a reminder, you could rewatch the White Rose video on doubling from yesterday’s maths activity. Find it here: Week 1, Lesson 1 Video
Have a go at this butterfly doubling activity. You will need: Paint, Fingers, Butterfly template (printed or drawn out). Find our template here: Doubling Butterfly Template
Instructions:
Fingerpaint some dots on one side of the butterfly (quickly – don’t let them dry!)
Count how many dots you have drawn.
Fold the paper along the butterfly’s body. We have drawn a line to help.
The same amount of dots should have printed on the other side of the paper. Count how many dots there are on the butterfly now.
Fill in the sentences: Double _____ is _____. _____ + _____ = _____
You could repeat this with a new piece of paper and a different number of dots.
If you would like to continue learning about doubling, you could complete this activity sheet. Challenges are included for those who wish to complete them. Find it here: Maths Doubling – 30th April
Topic
Computing: Last term, we learnt how to stay safe when using the internet. With everyone using the internet a lot more at the moment, we thought it might be a good time to recap some important rules.
Talk to someone at home about what you use the internet for. Can you remember any tips from last term for staying safe online? Today we are thinking about sharing information online. Use the slides to talk through what information you should share online with someone at home. Personal Information Slides

Maths
Maths looks a little bit different today because it’s Family Challenge Maths. Have a look at the challenges and work through as many as you can.
Challenges 1, 2, 3 and 4 are the most suitable for year 3 children but why not challenge older brothers and sisters or parents to help you complete more.
Year 3, we were so proud of you when you wrote your Iron Man poems and that some of these won prizes in competition. Show us your best work! Can you decorate it too? You could write this, use template or do on the computer. Please send us your work after.
Today in DT we are looking at bee homes. Look at the information and photos in the PowerPoint and draw a picture of your own bee home design on a piece of paper. Don’t forget to label it with the objects you will use. Make sure you get an adult’s permission before deciding to use anything in your design. Please email your designs in if you can. We would love to see them.
Don’t forget you can email us on year3@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if: 1. You have a question 2. Need a password 3. Need some help 4. Send us your work 5. Or even just say hello! How are you today? We hope you are all well. Its a Friday, and its also the first day of May! We hope you have all had a hearty breakfast, and are ready for another day of learning. Remember to try and find time to read a book today as it is one of the most important tasks that you can do to support your learning and you can find lots of hidden treasures in a good book. It can take you on adventures to different times and places. Where will your book take you today?
We have loved reading your pirate stories. You have all tried incredibly hard with these, and you should be really proud of you work!
We can reveal that you have all been fantastic pirates, and have found all of the clues to reveal all of the parts of the treasure map! Your last challenge is to unscramble the pieces of the map, and put them together to find where x marks the spot! Can you find where the treasure is? If you are successful, you can unlock the special treat that you have all earned for all of your hard work!
HeartSmart Worship
As it is Friday, you will find a lovely HeartSmart worship to do together here. We are looking at HeartSmart ‘Don’t Rub it in- Rub it Out!’ linked with our Christian Value of Forgiveness. There is a super Boris video to watch too.
Pirate Clues! Ahoy Me Hearties!
Avast Me hearties- we found the last two pieces of the map! One was near the phone and the other under the table in between a load of school books!
Now we’ve just one thing left to do together! Solve the map and get the treasure!
Use the code to get to the map and put the pieces back together. Remember, Me Hearties, X marks the spot.
We would love to hear from you and see your lovely work, so please do not hesitate to email us at year2@stmarksce.org.uk. Enjoy your day!
Many thanks,

English
In English today, you can complete your usual Friday grammar activity. Remember, if you have decided to carry on with writing your pirate adventure story then you can miss this today.
Once you have completed your task you can check your answers. If you don’t have access to a printer, it is fine for you to talk through each question and discuss your answers rather than write them down if things a little easier.
Today in maths, we have another Friday maths challenge for you to have a go at!
Similarly to last week, these problems aim to encourage you to challenge yourself, and draw on your maths knowledge to find the answers. The first two problems will be aimed at Year 2, so we suggest you focus on these, and may want to complete either, or both of these problems.
Please click on the link below to access the above problem, and others on the White Rose page. Complete ‘Lesson 5’ in ‘Summer Term – Week 2’ named ‘Friday maths challenge’. Please email us if you have any questions regarding this. Good luck!
Today’s extra activity will continue with our science learning all about plants. Today we are going to be thinking specifically about what plants need to grow. Click here to watch a short video explaining the things that plants need to grow.
Once you have watched the video, share what you have learnt by completing one of the below activities.
Here are some additional activities for you to have a go at each day if you choose to. Please feel free to do as much or as little of these as you wish. We have added a handwriting booklet (the entire alphabet) that you could work through very gradually, not in one go. You can either print the booklet, or do this onto paper of your own at home. We look forward to seeing how amazing your handwriting will be when we see your work. The Common Exception Words should also be learnt gradually, by selecting 2 or 3 words a week that you should aim to learn along side your weekly spellings.
20 minutes of reading either a school book or a home book.
Practice your 2,5 and 10 times tables using TTRockstars, or a different method.
Practice your weekly spellings which will be provided below and on Spelling Shed, and the Year 2 Common Exception Words.
Don’t forget you can email us on year2@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password, need some help, want to show us your work or even just say hello! Please get your grown up’s permission before you email us. We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!

Hello children. Well done for all of your fabulous ‘art in the garden’ yesterday. We were very impressed that you were resilient enough to get out there in the rain! We loved looking at your creative ideas for a castle!
Today our activities are linked to ‘Lucky Double 7’ AKA Numberblock 14, and our story ‘How to catch a dragon’ read by Mrs Rushton. We hope you have fun getting creative and drawing a dragon later!
If you fancy trying to break a Guinness World Record then join in with England’s Biggest Assembly: Today Thursday 30th April at 10am, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will deliver a message of hope to school pupils across the country in the first assembly at Oak National Academy. Year R Team
This week we go up, up and away to explore… Castles
Bodiam Castle, East Sussex, England
English – Phonics game
Today’s activity is playing a dragon game to practise your phonics. The game is called Dragon’s Den. Click here to play.
How To Play and Tips from Phonics Play:
Choose phase 3 and then choose the specific sets of letters you want to practise.
Model sound-talking each sound in the word on the egg and then blending the sounds together and saying the final word. Ask your child to repeat this process.
Ask them to decide whether the word is real or fake. Drag the egg to either the green (real) or red (fake) dragon.
For subsequent words, ask your child to sound-talk and then say the blended word.
For every word (even words that they are familiar with) expect children to sound-talk the word and blend it to say the word. Don’t just let them read the words. Phonics sessions are all about learning to blend and segment so the children need to be practising these skills.
Maths – Meet Numberblock 14!
First, watch today’s episode where we meet Numberblock 14! click here to view
Now collect 14 objects/cubes around your house, group them into a group of 10 and a group of 4, then practise saying “10 and 4 more make 14”. Can you say it a loud voice, a quiet voice, a squeaky voice, what is the silliest voice you could use?
Numberblock 14 loves to play on his skateboard! I loved it when he was skating in between the numbers 1-14. I wonder if you could make your own number track and practise running/ /jumping/hopping or skipping through it like Numberblock 14? You could use chalks on the floor outside to write the numbers, or maybe you could use post its/paper on the carpet to write the numbers.
Numberblock 14 told us he was an even number – can you explain to your grown up what that means? If you have cubes you could make Numberblock 14, or you could draw him to show you grown up why he is even (each block has a partner, there are no blocks left out). Can you make or draw any other even numbers?
If you fancy an extra challenge, can you find out what happens when you add 2 even numbers to 10 together – does it make an odd or an even number? What happens when you add 2 odd numbers together? Does it make an odd or an even number?
Don’t forget you can email us on yearr@stmarksce.org.uk. We would love to hear from you if you have a question, need a password or need some help.
You can continue to use Tapestry to share your child’s work. Please only upload one post a day. You can either choose one activity or put all the activities you complete on one post.
We look forward to hearing from you. We may not reply the same day!
Independence
The children in Year R are very rarely asked to work independently, particularly when writing. It is expected that they will need adult support to get started on all of the tasks we set for them here, and continue to need it throughout their activity.
However, we want to continue to build their independence, so encourage them to use resources which can help them be independent like sound cards, letter formation cards for handwriting etc.
Note for parents: Hopefully your children will enjoy working through these activities with you. We completely understand it may be difficult to complete all these tasks due to other family commitments or you are working from home, so please do not worry; complete what you can with your child.
There is absolutely no expectation that you get all, if any of these activities completed each day.
Ongoing Activities
You can find lots of learning resources that we have collated on the Educating Home Page. Click here to be redirected.
